25WSSM load suggestions

I just picked up a Winchester Mod70 25WSSM Coyote, 24" stainless, 1-10 T.

Looking to shoot the 120"s or 123 grain pills, I want one load for coyote, deer. Any suggestions on powder and starting charge weight, currently I am cleaning out some nasty carbon/copper from the old owners clean barrel.

I have a Win 70 Stealth in 25WSSM. My load is 115gr Berger, 42gr H414 and CCI BR2 primers. Load is running right at 2920fps over the chrono. Shot a mule deer in November with this load. Was only a 165yd shot, but he didnt jump or flinch, just DRT.

Sounds similar to what I'm doing with my 25wssm. It's a coyote with the 24" stainless barrel and a 6-24x40 b&l elite 4000 on top. I'm using 42 h4350 with a 215 for 2900 fps with a 120 speer boat-tail. I also use superformance with a 100 sierra and it'll pitch that 100 grain pill to 3300 fps with a 210. I use 38 grains h4985 with a 100 sierra at 3100 fps and 42 grains vit 550 with the 100 hornady at 3000 fps.
The wssm's do not shoot accurately with hot loads. Often start loads will be 1/4" to1/2" groups, but top loads will be three inches or more. Superformance seems to be better here, as I'm at top load and still holding moa performance.

Thanks for the replys, anyone try RL powers? I have found the RL17, RL22 work well in overbore cases. What about turning the case necks to .014" thickness....is it worth the effort on this case?

Got the barrel clean and will mount a Weaver Grand Slam 6-20x40 this weekend.

I tried rl22 and rl25 in this cal. (before data came out at all) with 120's. rl22 was alright with lighter charges, but 25 was a shotgun. Fast, but a shotgun. I never tried 17 as when I was developing loads for the rifle 17 wasn't out. 15 is too fast and 19 and 22 are a bit slow, so I stayed single base. I wouldn't doubt that 17 will be almost exactly the performance of h4350 here, with good accuracy at 2900 fps or below, and mediocre accuracy if pushed to 3K or so. Give it a whirl if you want, but I'll stay with what I've got.

I never tried any of the RL powders myself. There was talk that Winchester was using Win 760 as the factory powder so I stuck with that and H414 as its equivalent. I have used Hornady 117gr sst, sierra 100gr MK, and now the bergers and all will fly down the barrel MOA or better. I really have not heard any negative things about this caliber not being able to shoot good, especially in bolt guns. I also did turn my necks. I don't know if it made a difference or not, but it is just my habit to make everything as uniform as possible so the only variable is me pulling the trigger!

One another note, when I removed the action from the stock I noticed the factory only bed the lug and tang. When I glass bed an action I will do about 1.5" in front of the receiver ring to support the barrel, do you guys shoot factory guns or did you bed more?

I'll turn a test batch of necks to .014" thickness to check for accuracy improvement too.

The wssm brass likes a LOT of neck tension. Plus factory chambers are big, so a bit of extra brass will just fill the neck better. If you feel the need to turn 'em, I'd just go to knock of the high spots, nothing more.
I knocked out the bit of goop in my recoil lug area on my Coyote too when I lightened the trigger. I went to simply metal on laminated wood bedding and smoothed the high spots and she's a 1/4" to 1/2" rifle. I don't do more than I have to on a rifle to make it shoot. I keep going 'till she does shoot, and hit the brakes at good enough.

Sounds good, I'll wait for the temps to drop from the 80's and try the factory 120's to see how they group and wait to bed the action further.

Had time to try some range time ( 100 yards) with the 25WSSM Coyote. I used factory Winchester 120 pep ammo and was suprised how well the groups turned out! Factory gun/Factory ammo.....all I did was adjust the trigger for creep and overtravel after installing a lighter spring.

Good group; hell of a lot better than my rifle with that load. It was 1.5"-2" with the 120 psp. I tried a few for gits and shiggles and they weren't good. I had over 1000 rounds of handloads through the gun BEFORE I tried them though.
