WTB First AR in 308--WHICH ONE IS BEST?

I would like to buy an AR platform 308 rifle in a non- carbine platform.

Whose Rifle is a great (Accurate & Reliable) Value.

Have read quite a bit about them but have NO real world experience with them.
I have always been a Bolt guy.

Have a Rock River AR-15 that I like well enough..

Money is not really the consideration other than good value for Dollars Spent.

Please give your experienced opinions.

There are many good brands of ARs and Rock river is one of them. You will need to look for an
AR 10 or the Remington R-25 (Same An AR 10 ). the AR 10 or R25 has a different lower that
will accommodate the larger rounds Like the 243, 260, 7/08 and 308. and is purpose built for
the larger more powerful rounds.

I would look at the Remington R 25 in 7/08 If it was for me. I like the piston operated ARs but
they are still a little on the expensive side.

There are some conversions for the AR but I wouldn't recommend them.

I have a POF 6.5 Creedmoor & know several guys that have the same rifle. They are all shooters. They were part of a special order that came with Rock Creek barrels. I have fallen in love with the Creedmoor round. Can't wait for deer season in west TX

Remington, DPMS and Bushmaster are all the same gun, just different names. If you decide to build your own, most of the parts from those guns will not interchange with the Armalite guns. The receivers are made different. Magazines are different. Barrel nuts are different. Several other things also. So you must decide between the two types. Even is you buy complete guns, most after-market parts will not interchange. I've got a DPMS LR-260 (260 Rem.) that I like but like all the AR-10 platforms it is very heavy.

I am also looking at an AR-10 or AR260.

A am a bolt guy, so no exp in AR's, (only SKS"s).
I know there are uppers and lowers, and two different kinda of platforms etc.

What are the advantages or disadvantages to each type.

I like the 260 rem, 308 bolt face, same magazines etc.. a .5 bc 123 grain bullet at over 3000 fps

But I like the 308 and it's availability.

are DMPS good rifles.

is it good to buy a ar-10 lower and have one built to my specs.. say I want a 260 rem barrel and I do not want the fast 8 twist bbl, I want to only shoot 95 to 125 bullets, so I want a 9 twist and 25-26 inches.

what magazine are better. I have 3 good friend with AR-15's that can give me points on what or how to take em apart etc. but I would like some input here on what are good. I'm not into the ultra expensive Leasbear stuff. a 3/4 inch groups is fine.

JP Rifles has a program set up for individuals to send a stripped lower and they will complete the lower only or build a rifle to your specs. There are a lot of options to choose from. You can sign up for a "rifle builder" page on his website to build a virtual rifle. Once it is complete you can have it built.

Check it out on the website (jprifles.com) I have a stripped DPMS LR308 lower ready to go, just need to decide what I want. Long Range 260 Rem or another 308 configured differently.
