270win 150 gr loads

looking for a load for my 270win I have just starting reloading and want to get the best out of the cartridge. It also needs to not be tempurature sensetive because were I hunt it goes from -30°c or colder to +30°c I will be hunting deer and out to maybe 500 yard when I get good enough.

Go to JBM ballistics (google it) and run some velocity/bullet comparisons between the 140 and 150 offerings.

I'm thinkin', from 4 decades of shooting the 270 Win cartridge that a 140 moving along at a good clip is plenty sufficient.

I've been shooting, testing that is, 160 class bullet in it w/7828ssc and seem to be doing well. So. . . 7828ssc and the 150 . . ???

I shoot 140 grain BTSP Hornady bullets in my 270 with H4831 powder with great results. This is one of Hodgdons "extreme" powders and is very temperature insensitive. My best load with this bullet was shooting H1000 powder but it was a heavily compressed load. After storing these cartridges loaded with H1000, they would not shoot near as accurately as when first loaded. I pulled some bullets and the H1000 had clumped and hardened. You may not need to compress H1000 with the heavier 150 grain bullets and it would probably be a good choice in that application.

My pet load for my 270 is 52gr, of H4350, and a 150gr Nosler partition. I pulled it strait from the Nosler manual. It's not particularly fast but it shoots good enough. I've been trying out Matrix VLD in another rifle and from what I've been seeing there, a Matrix 150gr in .277 is looking more and more interesting.

Most of the 130-150 class hunting bullets will kill deer easily at 500 yds from a 270 win if you hit what you're aiming at.

I have had good initial results with the 165 Matrix, but haven't hunted with them as yet. Others here have reported good results on game.

I use nosler brass, h4831sc and cci br2 primers with mine because that's what's mostly on my bench and it gets the job done. H4831sc is considered to be pretty temp stable and that's been my experience relative to some other powders.

I have hunted with the 130 Bergers and they are accurate and deadly.

I hunt North Dakota so I am at least as bad temp swing wise as you. In my 270's with 150 hornady bullets I use 7828 with a wlrm primer. The mag primer will keep things rolling well in cold temps.
