I plan on either building a .338 Edge or sending it to one of the smiths on this site and having the smith to put it together. What i need to know is what all calibers come in the Model-700 long action ? The reason I ask is because I plan on visiting all the local pawn shops to buy a used one. thanks for looking and if anything comes to mind that I may need to know . Feel free to say on.

Thanks......

Buy a rem 700 ultramag, 7mm, 300, 338 it doesn't matter. You could buy a used rifle in excellent shape for around $375-$450. Or buy a new SPS and have a new action. Or put a WTB ad for a rem 700 long action magnum action.

Thanks for your help. I want to try and find one locally so maybe I could save on shipping.

Look for one of the Ultra Mags. (7mm,300, 338 and 375) If you can find one of these all that
they will require is a custom barrel and a good reamer and chamber job.

Any magnum bolt face long action (.540) will work but some work on the rails and mag may
be needed if you cant find one of the Ultra Mags.

For real precision, a good stock and trigger can be added.

Thanks JE.
My step father has been a machinest for 30 years but has never done any gun work . I just built him a shop and he has a Logan lathe 2 vertical (Digital drill presses or milling machine . anyways my plan is to buy a 700 action and then call HART and get a 30" .338 barell . I feel very confident that we can install the break and barrel but I may need to send the action to someone to true everything up. What do you think I should do ? Should I buy a .338 Edge match reamer ? what is your advice on the reamer . Thanks for any help.

I prefer Manson and PT&G High Speed Steel finish reamers for Non Production chambering.

PT&G Has this reamer In Stock for $138.00. Also buy a Go, Head space gauge from PT&G.
Finish reamers are the same quality as special match reamers with special dimensions, So you
will be fine with it.

No other tools should be nessary. For more details or help PM Me and I will be happy to help
you.

Blueprinting/Truing of an action is allways a good Idea if accuracy is extremely important.
