I was out shootin yesterday at 1330 and on occasion I would have a shot hit about 2' high. Could it be thermals causing this? I am shooting a savage 338 lapua with 300 grain bergers

Were you shooting up hill and was the wind behind you or directly in your face?

I was shooting fairly level across 2 canyons and the wind was left to right. Ryan

Ryan, with out being there to read the indicators of conditions it is hard to say. But for sure across two canyons you could have easily had some varying conditions with a lift.

Another thing that will easily cause this at these instances is, not having a solid bag under the rear of the stock. Even the slightest drop at the rear durring recoil will send em high.

What you saw is not unexpected, at least by me, when shooting across multiple canyons/large swales or to the other mountain when shooting over a small ridge on the far mountain.

I've busted my butt setting up wind flags in a particularly tough 1400 yard spot. One day to set the flags. Wouldn't ya know? the next day no wind. No flyers!!

Next day, steady wind, flags were so **** confusing they did me no good.

However, could still hold Minute of Elk.

Depeding on the terrain, wind etc either thermals or updrafts could easily be responsible.

Of course at that range almost anything could be the cause.
