Kenton Turret Vs Leupold CDS Turret

I recently purchased two Leupold VX3 4.5X14X40 One for my 270wsm and one for my 7mm Rem Mag. I was a little discouraged that I would have to send them off to Leupold and pay extra $$$ to get retrofitted for the CDS Dials, however I recently fumbled across Kenton Industries who offer a turret that is a little more expensive but I wouldn't have to send off my scope, they claim that it fits right on the scope once i remove the bottle cap style turret and reveal the coin slot under neath. This past season I had a kill out to 550 Yards with my 270wsm and one of these scopes. I just want to be able to dial in the yardage for my custom reloads instead of counting clicks. I have a friend who already uses the CDS and loves it, but I would like to hear from someone who has used the Kenton Turret. I really hate to have to send my scope off for the retrofitting, so I'd like to get some opinions... Pros and Cons for both CDS and Kenton.

I have both Kenton Turret and the Leupold CDS turret. I like the Kenton but on my Zeiss Conquest scope I did need to send the scope back to Zeiss to install the turrent the first time because I did not buy the scope with the target turret. The CDS turrets are set with set screws and the internal parts that the screws tighten down on are different. Kenton may make a turrent that will fit CDS but I am unaware of this. I would be interested as the Kenton are superior in my opinion.

I went ahead and bought the Kenton Long Range Hunter for my 7mm Rem mag. So far I'm really liking it. I have shot out to 800 yards. I'm planning on shooting in the morning if the wind is not too bad. Yeah my leupolds are not the CDS models and need retrofitting, so I chose Kenton since it was just a drop in install. I was actually on their sight today and it says CDS turret coming soon so I know they are probably already figuring out how to do those too.

I agree with you though, Kenton Turrets are really great turrets. Especially when the customer provides the data.

I sent a scope off to Leupold a while back for them to put an elevation turret on. The turn around is really fast. I have no experience with the Kenton.

The thing I like least about any yardage BDC type dial is when conditions or the load change you are lost. For me it's MOA dials and a current drop chart taped on the stock. May not be quite as fast but at extended ranges a lot more accurate.

Something you might want to look at is the leaupold retractable tape for yardage/drops.

It's like a very small tape measurer that you can write down all the info on, it mounts to either the top or bottom of the scope. That way you can get your dope without ever moving the rifle or having to rase up. Just pull it out, read it, and let'r wind back up.

I've used the same taped on drop/wind chart as you for decades though... HA!

The CDS is not imited to one turn.You have to ask custom shop to print it out further. Ihave a 325 wsm dial,200 zero to 1000.The turret cap has a ball stop,turret has a small lip,which I filled off.You want to count your turns to bottom or top for your zero as a reference,I then sharpie that on inside of my floor plate.On Mark for it is easy to make own ZS

Purchaed a Kenton Custom turret for a Leopold 6.5-20 VX3. This company allows you to send them your ballistics and they will cut a custom turret. Mine was a 7mm mag for Berger`s 168gr vld. Tested at ranges out to 850 yds and yardage marking pretty acccurate within 2 " of bullet drop.

I got the Kenton for my .243 and it works great. Will be ordering one for my .270 and soon as I order a new Chrony. Reminder...Chrony's are not bulletproof!!!!!
