I'm new to this and looking for a smith but not to sure what to ask them??? I'm looking more for a hunting style rifle but would like something that can be fun to be shot from a bench! I'm also not sure what the steps would be in building a rifle do I start with a new barrel or a stock or what so any help would be really great.

I understand you being new and all that but this is your third thread (that I know of) on looking for a gunsmith ...

http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f37/who-should-i-have-blueprint-my-weatherby-92573/

... but no follow up on what you have done thus far. You have been provided good advice.

Sorry don't mean to be a PITA but when you finally make that call, they can help you in your decision making and will have better understanding on what you are trying to accomplish.

Here's a nice article http://www.longrangehunting.com/articles/long-range-rig.php, it's quick and easy read yet very informative.

The call is yours! :rolleyes::D:cool:

What part of CA are you in? I have a couple of good contacts out there. Not "gun builders" but guys that could take a decent factory gun and do a really good job of accurizing it and helping you put together a really decent hunting rig without spending a ridiculous amount of money.

There's also some extremely nice rifles on our classified section and very reasonable prices that could start you off way ahead.

Well this is to feenix ya your right I did have to post 3 times and have contacted most of the smiths that people have suggested to me but most of them either told me there not sure about shipping to cal and or not willing because I could no pick up or drop off the gun in person to have some range time .... So before u go and try and be a smart *** maybe just stop reading my post lol ... And to wildrose im in sf

Go easy on the comments, our senior members are generally not smart a#$es or they wouldn't be here any more. He was simply trying to guide you toward the solid information you have already received. There was no way for any of us to know that the recommendations given weren't working out because you didn't allude to that upon opening this thread. I know what assumption does for a person, but that's how I took it as well. Please don't take offense as that is not my intent, just clarification.

There are a lot of good 'smiths out there who will be more than happy to discuss & help guide you through the decision making process. There is a company in CA called Tac Ops that may be able to help, although they do cater more toward the LE/Mil crowd, their work is fantastic.

Chad Dixon @ LongRifles Inc (my 'smith) is a master at just about anything.

Jim See @ Center Shot Rifles is well spoken of.

Kevin Cram @ Montour County Rifles is highly regarded in this Forum (as well as a sponsor)

ShortGrass, J E Custom, Sin Arms & Grit are ALL sponsors & contributors here who know what they are talking about.

Don't foget our grand master here at LRH, Mr. Len Backus who produces his own line of custom LRH rifles.

Any one of the above Gents will take the time to discuss your needs, wants & necessities. It's ok that you aren't quite sure what you are looking for, that is where the expertise of the gunsmith & our senior member (like FEENIX) comes into play.

Hope that helps,

Well outlaw your 100% right I have received a ton of good help from MOST of the members. And I'm sure he was only trying to help but don't make it seem like I'm wasting anyones time by posting but thanks outlaw for the info

Show me where I was being a smart *** or when you gave us any update as you stated above so that those that are willing and able to help can provide the next course of action! lightbulb

I am a retired USAF member and my home of records is Fairfield, CA ... and yes I had a couple of point of contacts in CA that might be able to help but I am hesitant to recommended them now.

I don't even know why I bother but this is my last attempt to help.
