Well after 25 years of shooting my 308win. bench rifle. She has worn out the barrel again. I have chosen 6.5X47Lapua caliber for my next chamber. I am having trouble figuring out which barrel maker to go with. I know hart,Kregier, sheilen are all great. Can anybody give me real world use of each of theese barrels? Or if there is any others you might suggest. Thanks

I just got a new 6.5 barrel from Krieger. I've read lots of good stuff about Bartlein barrels. One of the key employees at Bartlein said if he couldn't use one of their barrels he would want a Krieger or Obermeyer.

Although there are many barrel manufacturers (Brux, Krieger, Hart, Barlein, Shilen, Benchmark, etc), the reality is that they are all good. What's more important is the smith that puts the rifle together.

Often one of the things that drives the decision making process is delivery time, check-out www.bugholes.com as they have many barrel in stock.

i am very taken with pac nor barrels. i own several of them and the craftsmanship is unsurpassed. my last .243 barrel produced the smallest groups of all my barrels throughout the years.my next custom will be a pac nor.

I will assume you have experience with competition. Look no further than the trends of winners on the competition circuits.

Likely best button rifle barrel is Hart. You want cut rifle, Krieger, Obermeyer, and Bartlein are very likely equal.

I have real world experience with Hart, Shilen, PacNor, Krieger, Obermeyer, Lilja, Broughton, etc.

Another thing to consider is what maker has a reputation in certain calibers. Just a rumor but I heard that the Schneider 6.5mm polygonal rifling isn't a great choice with smaller calibers but is excellent with larger diameters.

Hart and Krieger probably dominate the 6.5 and 7mm.

Let me try this again! I have tried Hart,Kreiger an Shilen. Can't say nothing bad about any of them! I do agree with trebark about having a good smith! If it's not put together right it's not worth diddly! My personel favorite is Hart, but that's just me! They have always don't me a good job. Also look at the record book's for a comparison! Hope this helps!

Sorry for the post! Hit the wrong button, big fingers an small phone don't go together! As far as barrels, I like a Hart! Not saying anything bad about others, just my choice! Again! Sorry for the bad post!

I wanted a new 30BR barrel for 500 meter groundhog shoots. In checking the score equipment lists, I see Rock Creek barrels are very popular. I usually buy Krieger or most any cut rifled barrel, but had to try this one. It was chambered and fit to my Nesika action by a very good smith. I have just 160 rounds thru it so far, and it looks very promising.

But most barrels are a crapshoot - you can never be certain you will get a hummer. Pay your money and take your chances.

I went with Bartlein tube. I am glad i did. Remington action. This gun will shoot 1.5-2" groups @ 600 yards . One hundred yards = one hole groups. Rl-15 39.2 grs pushing the new sierra's 123 grains bullets. Thanks for all the threads. Oh the reloader has problems with heat. Two punctured primers with 90 deg temps. will try lighter load to reduce pressures.
shot my first match. First place first match with this gun. It does not get any better than this. Off to my next match, IBS vapor trail agust 4/5th. Hope she will do the same again. If not it sure is fun shooting this caliber. It does not kick at all.

Thats what i shot. H-Varget 46 grains behind hornady 168 moly BTHP match bullet. It shot great. just beat you up when shooting 120 rounds in a day.
My new 6.5X47 is absolulty wonderful. An this is the first round that was no picky with loads. Everything is sub 1/2 moa.
Thanks,T,Holbrook:)
