Hey guys I've been wrackin my brain about this for months so ill ask the experts.

I primarally hunt coues deer but only archery but want to hit the hills with a rifle this yr. I want to be able to shoot to around 500 yards. I've been looking at 4 guns. A .270 wsm, .270 wby mag, 6.5x284, and for whatever reason im kind of interested in a 25 wssm. Any advice?

500 yard does not require a magnum chambering. I would say look at that 6.5x284 or a 308 winchester or any of the rounds based on its case. The old 30-06 or any of its buddys will suit you well to.

I'm currently building a 7mm SAUM for coues hunting. I have a buddy building a similar rifle in the same cartridge and another buddy that's building a 280 or 280 AI. we are looking to shoot the 168 Berger VLDs close to 3000 fps.

All of the cartriges that you mentioned would work great as well.

I guess I should have added that those are all the rifles I "want" not really what I "need" haha. I've got rifles that I can use I guess I just want one of the 4 an was hoping u guys had expirience with any of them or all an what u recommend. Thanks for the reply.

Of the 4 you have mentioned, I would go with the 6.5x284.

Both for selection of bullets and brass.

Your likely already aware, but that choice is still considered through the filter that you roll your own ammo.

While one can get it commercial, it is not usually at the countryside gas station, that you would find the more standard fare.

For that matter, 25wssm is limited as well.

I have not shopped for 270 of either version.......

If firearms resale ever was necessary, I would think that would be a check in the favor of the 6.5 as well.
