Here is a shot in the dark. I ran across a discussion and what was said was that Hornady uses a certain Vihtavuori powder in their light mag loads. Does anyone know about the light mag loads from Hornady and what they use for powders. It seems they can get better velocities from their light mags than can a number of handloaders on here and what they can get. Most guys that I have talked to about certain loads can't even come close to the performance of the light mags.

some of there superformance powders from what i have read are a hybrid powder if i under stand it it is a mix of acouple powders i think. its possible that is what they do with the light mag loads to

Another thing that is interesting is the new suPerformance ammo for say the .280Rem is available through hornady. I made a call to them one day and they said they don't have loading info for the use of their superformance powder. So how can they have superformance ammo in he .280Rem and then not make available the powder they load it with? I can buy the powder but have no load data to work with to build loads in the .280Rem that they load the .280 with? Maybe someone can help with this one as well.

Reverse engineer it.

Pull the bullet, weigh the powder and see what amount they have in a few different shells. I suspect that you can then tweak it a bit and see what works well. I know this doesn't tell you what the max and min are for your 280 but it's at least a start.

In addition, the Hodgdon website has info on 2 loads for the 280, which will help a little bit.

Dr. V

I had thought of that and if they only have one superformance powder it should seem to work. So it's worth a try. Just have to force myself to buy the box of ammo :(
I had looked before but was unable to find any info so that is why I called Hornady to ask them. Seems they have come out with some recently?
Thanks for the help and good shootin:D
