chronny recommendation

Hello guys, i'm in the market for a chronnograp, i would like something good not the ones where a i have to shoot beetwen two small spots on the chronny, my first chronny was the f1 master chronny, i need it for airguns in calibers from .177 to .44, speeds from 350 fps to 1400 fps.

rimfire calibers like 22lr, 22win mag and .17 hmr
and centerfire calibers from 22-250, 6mm rem, 270 win, 30-06 and 338/378 weatherby.

any recommendation is appreciated.

I think you need to shoot between two spots on all chronographs, at least you do for the ones that I have owned or used. I have owned and used Chrony, then upgraded to CED Mellinium II, and I also have an Ohler 35P.

The CED is a heck of a chonograph, and worth the price.

If you can tolerate the price, the Ohler is a great chronograph. My 35P functions perfectly under windy conditions that spawn error messages like crazy for both my Chrony and my CED.

I sold my Oehler and got a CED M2 a few years ago. Simpler to set up and use. Just as accurate as far as I can tell. Much cheaper.

I like it well enough that I now sell it in the LRH Store.

have owned a Pact for over 15 years, and can count the shots it's tossed out on one hand. Made in Texas, and come with a very long warranty.

I will recommend the Oehler 35. It is like having two chronographs in one as it has a 3rd screen and gives you two readings on the same projectile and this will help weed out errors. They are higher in price but they are as good as it gets. So you can buy one right off the bat or dance around the price like I did. I bought to Shooting Chrony's and a Pact before I bought my Oehler. It was not until now that I feel I have one I can trust to be close.

That said I have never used a CED so I can not say one way or the other on them.

We saw errors in it, so don't think they're near perfect. But the errors we saw with the Ohler were not in the screens themselves but the rest of the unit. So what was the difference? .0025%, and that's not a quarter of one percent, but 25 thousandths of a percent. That's nine cases of beer for the same accuracey.

Well Gary as you should know errors can be caused by many things with any unit. From a fly to muzzle vibration to wind on the screens as well as ones we cant explain. I find it nice to get two readings to compare on the same bullet. Now my Pact you are so fond of never read a single bullet in a whole wasted afternoon of screwing with a chrono instead of tuning my ES. It went back and I ordered a Oehler. In the last two hours I have sent about 20 round through my Oehler and it is still working perfectly. I am very happy and I am also glad you are happy with your pact, it is obviosly better than the one I had.

As for the 9 cases of beer. Maybe if you left the beer out of the chrono session you would be able to see the errors...

I find it nice to get two readings to compare on the same bullet. Now my Pact you are so fond of never read a single bullet in a whole wasted afternoon of screwing with a chrono instead of tuning my ES. It went back and I ordered a Oehler. In the last two hours I have sent about 20 round through my Oehler and it is still working perfectly. I am very happy and I am also glad you are happy with your pact, it is obviosly better than the one I had.

As for the 9 cases of beer. Maybe if you left the beer out of the chrono session you would be able to see the errors...

Maybe I'm just lucky, I don't know. The best thing you can do with the Ohler is to throw away all their mounting system, and build something better. Or buy the mounting system from Square Peg. That made a difference with Doug's for sure. But as I said doug and I saw a max of about 7fps difference and which one was right nobody knew. Nobody ever said the Ohler was bad (their mounts are junk), but just a little over priced for what the other guys can also do. I've never used a CED, but have heard nothing but good things about them. Still as I see it right now, I'll be using the Pact till I croak unless they decide to come out with one that uses an SD card

Just a further note: I never take beer to the range, but have been known to take a coolar with soda pop or bottled water. Alcohol is forbiden at the ranges I shoot at for saftey reasons alone.

Yes but why?

If no dealer pricing on the Oehler, not much choice in which one you would sell!

I will take the Oehler hands down over anything else and yes I have shot over the CED.

I am with the others who recommend the CED M2 or the 35p. I don't have any experience with the 35p as I hear it's top of the line but I do have a CED M2 and like it. I only have used it for one whole day, but I like it so far and it is reasonably priced. So the CED M2 is very good as others have said.
