have a friend looking at getting a new .270

he's wanting to know opinions on the most accurate out of the box, out to 300 yards, w/no extra smith work.

he likes tikka's but wants to know if you guys have other suggestions

thanks folks

I think the Tikka will fit the bill just fine. My sons 270 wsm in a tikka has been the easiest gun I have ever worked up a load for, it likes em' all. :)
Although savage or a marlin xl7 are good but Tikka's just shoot real well..

I have got several savages that extremely accurate. Most all will shoot sub moa and if i do my part 1/2 moa. My wife on the other hand has a tikka that will shoot just as good as my savages. The tikka did take a little more ammo to work the load that i wanted but is still a shooter.

I bought the Tikka T3 Hunter .270 this season, and I really like it. It seems like the best value out there in terms of what you get for your money. I don't think you'll go wrong picking that gun. No additional work from a gunsmith. Really a great gun.

We need to know your friend's definition of "accurate."

We need to know how picky your friend is.

We need to know how much he is willing to pay.

For the money a700 remington ADL or BDL is hard to beat.

If he likes Tikka, then I doubt anything will be better enough at lesser price to bother too much pondering.

Savage is great as well, i have one, but I like the looks of Tikka better...accuracy very good n both.

Not out of the box compared to a Tikka or Savage. If you have a smith then a remington action may be the most universal platform, but not the most accurate out of the box.

I've had a few Remington 700's .270's that would shoot 1/2" or better right out of the box. A friend of mine had one that would hover around 1/4". This wasn't recently so I don't know what they are putting out now but I've seen quite a few shoot really well.

The T3 will do him fine. It wouldn't be my choice but it will definitely get the job done at 300 + yards.

I dislike the shortcuts that Tikka/Sako took with the T3 but understand that it's all about staying at a certain price point. Personally I would not go with a .27 cal since higher BC bullet selection is limited.

Recommend at least a 10x optic for 300+ yards.
