Looking to start compiling parts for an eventual build. Being a lefty means savage actions are easier to find than remmy's...
I am contemplating a RUM or Lapua build. I have heard that the 110 action should not be used for these cartridges unless it came from a gun originally chambered in Lapua / rum.

Any truth to that?

I do not think you can get a lapua bolt face but could be wrong. The only problem with running a rum in a standard savage is the 3.5" long action magazine is to short. If you use it as a single shot they work great. I have a 338 edge based on a savage as do many other folks around here.

Is a repeater possible with aftermarket bottom metal / magazine?

Thanks for the quick reply. Only savage chambered in 338 Lapua I know of is the BA, and buying one of those for a donor action wouldn't make much sense. Seemed like there was too many custom RUM savages running around for that to be true.

That is possible but I do not know of one. Researching as we speak. Someone knows and will hopefully chime in. in the mean time I am curious myself, but I really do not think it even matters with the big howitzer rounds. NOTHING I have shot with a 300 grain smk needed a follow up shot:D

There is a guy on this site and over on savage shooters that has designed a .338 specifically for the savage actions for use as a repeater. It is supposed to almost keep up with the edge, I can't for the life of me find the links but I know LTLR was helping with the testing. Any how you may look into that and/or shoot him a pm.

I have a 338edge on a savage 116 it is a single shot and i also have a lapua bolt face for a build setting in the safe just need time to build it

accurate mag makes bottom mettal and mags for savage 3.850 o.d 3.770 i.d. midway sells lapua bolt head. you will have to modify your action to make it work

Using a magazine from or for a centerfeed 300wm savage, the standard long action can be modified to feed a round just under 3.9", but as was mentioned earlier with practice and full knowledge of your rifle, there usually is no need for a follow up with an edge or lapua and if you do need one it doesn't take but but about 2 seconds longer if u have a shell holder on the butstock.

Putting aside the option for a repeater does it really matter what savage action is used in terms of what gun/model/caliber the action came from?
Only disadvantage of a short action having to pull the bolt to remove a live round?

I think the precision target action is the best for a single shot edge or lapua, a model 12 wsm action would be my second choice.

What is the advantage of those actions over say a 16 weather warrior assuming that either would be blueprinted / trued
anyway?
