338 Uttra mag average velosity

I just picked up a LH 338 ultra. 26" barrel. I have H-1000 and RETUMBO. I will start with the 300gr Sierra. So what is the average velosity with the 300gr. I had the stock beded and the triger work on. I have a 338 ax so i don't nead any info on a Lapua. Also the barrel is .700 at the muzzle can a muzzle brake be put on that light of a barrel ? All my custom barrel are .750 or larger. If the rifle shot good with the factor barrel i would like to brake it. If not i will rebarrel it and put a brake on it. I got this for a light pack rifle. pretty hot load but I cant stop shooting it when the first three go into one hole. After the first three it starts to open up a bit, but its a flimsy tube. Start at 90grns.

Man thats fast out of a 26" i hope mine will get close to that i got to get out and shoot it.

Not at all trying to cause friction. +2800fps with a 300gr out of a 26" barrel is pretty amazing. I would say that speed is not the norm by a lot. If you are getting it at even hot pressure then good on ya and keep at it.

WOW! I was getting 2800fps at sea level with h1000 91.0gr but it was with a 338-300 RUM aka EDGE in 30" pipe!

but,it can happen,some rifles shoot fast,some don't.

I see 2750 being adv/max out of a 26" tube in a 338 RUM. 5000ft/lbs of energy is hellava punch to me!

Im gonna have a 338 RUM built in a short/carry rifle 24"bbl. hope to see 2650-
2700fps with 300gr.

I have a remington 26" 338 RUM that will shoot the 300's to 2800 fsp however the best accuracy is in the mid 2700's with it. That is average. I shoot the lighter bullets in it for hunting though.

It may be that my cheap chrony is giving me a higher reading, but it says the same thing every time. I wouldnt care if I was getting 2700 fps, but she likes em warm i guess.

2750 is a bout where it should be 2800 + is to hot.

I loaded a few in a factory Rem and by 89gr of Retumbo showed strong pressure signs, a guy needs to start lower than 90gr!!!

I'll wager the cases will not hold a primer after the second fireing of 94 grains of Retumbo.....Depending on the lot of course.
I had to back off to 93 grains with the 300 bergers and not jam the lands to get the cases to last in a long throated (3.998) Edge.

Running the 338 RUM at a restricted OAL (AI Mag length), I had serious pressure signs @ 92.5grns of Retumbo with the 300 Sierra. Lost those two cases, didn't pop the primers, but while seating the new primers, they wouldn't stay in the case!! Start in the 86-88grn range just to be safe.

My load right now is 90.0 (yes ninety) of Retumbo

I have the same gun except put a B&C stock and rifle basix along with a de brake. Im only shooting the sieera 250 bt sptz getting nice 3 shot groups. I was actually a .318 the rest 900 and in the 6's. Im shooting 96 grsins of H-1000 kind of afraid to try the 300's. Having chronograph issues anyone guess what i might be getting from that load out of a factory 26" ?
