24x PST vs 22x NXS which is better?

past 600 yards...it seems my PST gets cloudy past 600 yards...is that normal..or do all scopes act that way? Thanks

It isn't really fair to compare a PST and NXS in my opinion. The manufacturing of the NXS in terms or reliability, durability, and consistency of product are leaps above the PST. Better resolution, clarity, color and contrast in glass in the NXS. The zero stop in the Nightforce is a mechanical zero as opposed to the shim system that the PST works on.

While the PST is a great buy for the money, I don't think that it was developed to compete in that NXS price range, but offers a good alternative for people that can't fork out the cash on a Nightforce.


In my humble opinion the Nightforce is definitely a considerable upgrade.

Check these guys out, they usually have stuff in stock and they know their optics.

I agree. I own both the PST and NXS. You do see a difference in clarity. Especially at further distances. The PST is a great. The NXS is better. I have the PST (6-24 FFP) on a couple of hunting rigs, but the NXS does outshine it. But then again there's a big difference in price.

Glass wise nightforce has never impressed me. We had a nightforce next to a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 last year long range shooting and the Zeiss glass was clearly better. 3 guys could clearly see the Zeiss had better glass and they were even nightforce fans. The PST glass to me is close to the conquest. I think the Nightforce is a incredible scope for war type combat situations but for hunting and regular shooting I'm not convinced it's the best choice.It is also extremely heavy which makes it a good idea to have rifles wearing a nightforce upgraded to 8-40 screws and the best mounts availble. The PST is a awesome value and will definitely go way up in price.

its kind of a lop sided comparision. the spf 24x pst runs 750 the spf nf 22x runs 1800

I have a 6-24x50mm PST FFP MOA scope that I have shot in competition at 1,000 yards. I shot 3 five shot groups with my 6mm Norma BR. hunting rifle. I shot 15 rounds at 1,000 yds. and they all would have been in the boiler room of an antelope.

PS: I love this scope. The glass is plenty clear enough to shoot way past 1,000 yds.

This seems interesting to me because i have a PST (4-16) and a NF 5.5-22 and i hated the pst because the glass wasnt even close to as good as my NF. Scrapped the PST and now shooting a vx-3 4.5-14x50LR and am much happier with the glass quality and over all build.

Even Vortex will tell you that the 6-24x PST has much better glass then the 4-16x PST. Compared to a VX III I think the 6-24x PST glass is better.

A buddy of mine has the 6-24 and to my eye it is still nowhere to what my 6.5-20 mk4 which has the same glass as vx-3. I dunno if it's cause the 2 I have used were some of the first pst's out or what but I was very disappointed in the clarity. Also got a new sightron s3 6-24 and it blows away the 2 pst's I have used. This is just my personnel experience.

I think the glass is nice on the 6-24 pst I can easily see bullet strikes on rocks out to 2000 yards and it remains clear and crisp even at 24 power...the only down side to me is that the cross hairs on the ffp are pretty big on target past 1000 or so thats why I am moving my vortex to my 308 and the lapua is getting a nightforce.

As far as tracking the vortex I have tracks perfectly I have shot it at 1800 and dialed it down to 500 several times and it always has returned to zero for me.

I think for the money vortex is pretty damned hard to beat.

If your not going to get a Vortex 6-24x50mm PST FFP MOA scope because you don't think the glass is not good enough for $950 why bother with a NSX or NF or S&B when you could get a March 8-80x56mm for a few bucks more than a FFP NF.

PS: IMHO my 6-24x FFP PST scopes glass looks clearer than a 6-24x VX III, but not quite as good as a $1800 FFP NF.

Well... Maybe if one of us brothers wins the Powerball Lottery, they can buy us all S&B's and be done with it.

If they hit it beig enough, just buy the factory.

In low light conditions one evening I compared the Nightforce nxs, vortex razor and pst.

Nightforce and Razor very close, Id buy the nightforce because its cheaper and easier to get rings.

Pst in my opinion is about like a bushnell or a cheaper type scope. I shot it the next day at 800 yds and it worked great just not overly clear and I dont think the turrets would hold up to constant adjusting to various ranges where as the nightfoce will.

Basically, despite the grumblings of those who don't want to pay the price of admission, you usually get what you pay for.
