My bolts that were damaged by some bad Remington 7 1/2 primers are at Gre'-Tan's being fixed. Today I received a check from Remington for the total amount of the repairs by Gre'-Tan plus the shipping cost. Also, they are drop shipping a case of primers to me to replace the bad ones that I destroyed.

My faith in Remingtons Customer Service is restored and a big thank you to a Mrs/Miss Sandra Strickland for all of her kind help and keeping me informed. I plan on posting this on all of the forums I belong to. Maybe some of you can do the same.

On a side note: I soaked the primers in Quaker State oil for over a week. More like 2 weeks. When burning some trash in my burn barrel I dumped the jar of oil and primers in also. Guess what.............ever darn one of those 6000 plus primers detonated.

I didn't think they would.

Nice to hear a positve end to a customer complaint, and sorry to hear the need for additional 'smithing popped up in the first place. At least they took care of it, and that's a good thing.

Not surprised at all about the primers, either. Despite the dire warnings about contaminating them with body oil if you dare touch them with bare fingers, they're tough, and pretty hard to kill. Seen them soaked in penetrating oil, gun oil and motor oil, and still manage to detonate. They're made to resist such contamination, and ya' got to admit, they resist it rather well!

How were the bolts damaged by the primers?

I did sort of brief it didn't I.
I've always bought reloading components by the bulk, well back in the 80's I did, to expensive now. Anyway, I had 10,000 Rem 7 1/2 primers from that era, used 4000 of them along the way with a few mishaps. These mishaps were from the primer blowing out of the side which then flame etched the bolt face. At that time I blamed it on soft Ruger steel....I know, I know. Stupid. Anyway, a few months ago it happened again only this time to my Rem. Model 7 bolt, then even more recent to a brand new Kimber Montana bolt.

That's when I wrote them a letter.
Remington had produced a bunch of primers with 2 anvils and these would at times blow out the side of the primer cup. Later they changed them to 3 anvil primers and cured the problem. What's interesting is that they didn't recall the bad primers and of course there is no shelf life on them.

What's bad is I have about 3000 loaded 223 brass with those primers. I doubt if I pull all those bullets, dump the powder and deprime the cases. I did that to about 1500 17 Rem. and 204's.

I just sent my 10 year old stw in because the extractor broke and the bolt release piece was broke off. They wanted me to send it to an authourized repair center and i told them id rather have the do it. The fixed it and said they had to replace the trigger because they wont ship out guns with the seals broke on the trigger ajustments and im sure replacing the bolt release was more of pain in the but then just replacing the trigger. Total charge with shipping was 50 bucks. Hard to beat that.

Good to hear about their customer service taking care of you, not always the case.
I wish their muzzleloader caps were this reliable. Several years back i used them with my smoke pole until one failed to go off on a big 13 point @ 15 steps. Turns out that box had a 50% failure rate. Luckily an acquaintance shot that buck a week later.

Me too- I recently had a good Remington experience. I have a 1970s model 700 with the old "push safety off to cycle bolt to unload" mechanism. Haven't used it in years but I decided I'd better get it fixed before my son has to inherit it and deal with it.

Remington emailed a shipping label. They changed out the trigger group, cleaned the gun and shipped it back- 3 1/2 weeks door to door. My cost was ~ $40.

I've called Customer Service a couple of times over the years and all I've had was courteous, good service.

Good to hear the positives of your experiences. I've got a problem child headed to them this coming week and hope I can report back with the same praise.

It's been awhile since getting my rifle back and I forgot to update. The folks at Remington received it, read my report on its issues, promptly destroyed it, and sent me a brand new one. They also shipped back the case I sent the old one to them in for free. All is well. Just wanted to add to the positive column for Remington's service with my rifle.

I recently had an issue with some 7mm STW remington brass. I had a few with the flash holes drilled off to the side. I sent a couple of pictures in and letter. They sent me a return shipping label.
I returned the brass (only 6 pieces) as there was no reason to send any more. In all probably about 25 pieces were not right.
After a little wait they sent me a check for $110.00. All I really wanted was a bag of 25 brass. They said they had no brass to send me.
Wow was that ever a nice touch. ANd I also recieved a follow up phone call to make sure it was all ok.
I was very happy with how they handled it. And the best part we stopped at Cabelas in Buda TX this spring and they had 7mm stw brass. Even had enough left over to by lunch.
