Co. Trophy unit draw, what should I do ?

I have been saving PP and now have 15 and still cant draw unit 2, I am afraid I will not live long enough to draw a tag ..What other units have trophy animals 320+ that I might look into ?

Yeah Ive thought about 61 but I really dont know enough about that unit to be blowing all my PP on it..I guess I need to research it !

Aviator, Your 5 years out on unit 2 with no points creep.
You could draw unit 40 this year if you'll have 16 pts., or unit 76 second season with 11 pts.

Muzzle Loader unit 49-6 pts
unit 62-2 pts
unit 66-11 pts
unit 67-10 pts
unit 76-14 pts

Archery 40, 49, 61, 66, 67, 76, I'd choose 61 1st & 76 2nd all are 15 pts or less.

You could wait 2 more years & with no pts creep Draw unit 61 & 76 1st season with 17 pts.

Going in blind to any unit after 15+ years isn't a move I would make. Spend a year or two hunting Cows (if available), now that you are that close, and when you draw you'll be up to speed.

Have not hunted Co. for a few years but last good tag I had was in 62. On opening morning we passed 33 bulls before 9 A.M. Several of those were at least 340 bulls. Lots of bulls but we could not find any monsters. Took nine years for me to get the **** tag and I ended up eating it, but lots of 300-350 bulls.

All good advice Thank`s to everyone ! I really dont plan on going into any unit blind, I didn`t realize unit 62 had such good hunting..I will probably wait it out for unit 2 but 61 sounds tempting..I just wonder if unit 2 1st rifle is worth the wait..

Mike, I was refering that if there was no points creep in 2 years you would be able to draw Unit 61 or 76.
At one time I was going to hunt Unit 61 archery, I had 6 Points, it took 4 or 5 points to draw it. At the time I was drawing other good tags so I just put in for points. Now I've got 15 points and it takes 16 to Garrentee a tag, That's Points Creep.

I have heard about ranching for wildlife..but dont know much about it care to elaborate ?

Unit 61 is crazy. Elk everywere. My buddy hunted it last year. With 15 points I would without a doubt do a ranching for wildlife. You can hunt some unbelievable ranches. Ranches were you should pass up a 320 to 330 bull. More the range of 350 or better. Go to Colorado Div of Wildlife. Then click big game then ranching for wildlife then participating ranches. I have hunted a few ranches and all were incredible experiences. Took my largest Muley and Bull. I just do not have the patience for 15. I get 4 or 5 and I cant take it. Dont quote me on this exactly but Im really close. Say a ranch is participating in the ranching for wildlife. They are allotted say 100 bull elk tags. They have to give 10 % to the ranching for wildlife hunts. I almost positive its ten percent. I have a buddy who is a large outfitter I can ask. But for example I was hunting on ranches that charged 5 k or better with 4 to 5 points. I cant imagine with 15. It would truly be a once in a lifetime event. Hope it helps.
