Scope Dial Repeatablity?

Looking for a good 4.5-14x min scope up to a 6.5-24x. My main concern is the repeatability with solid clicks as we will be dialing up and down to where need be. Side focus would also be nice.
I am currently using an old Vari XII 6-18x40 that has worked quite well so far. Would also like a 30mm tube both for more light and more elevation adjustment, not a hard/solid requirement.
Some decent eye relief also.

Have spent much time the last couple days trying to come up with something. Thought the
Vortex was going to be the ticket, saw one in the local store, but for my old eyes and possible low light conditions I am very concerned the cross hairs and hatching will dissapear. This is to be used for mulies at distance, hopefully 700 or less, could stretch out further of course.

Budget is the big problem, of course. Would go with a NF or Luepold Mark4 but am needing to go much lower.

Looking at:
Burris 4.5-14x42 Fullfield II Rifle Scope (I assume these have dials under the caps?)
Burris 6.5-20x50 Fullfield II Rifle Scope (I assume these have dials under the caps?)
Burris 6.5-20x50 Fullfield E1 Rifle Scope (I assume these have dials under the caps?)

Nikon 6-18x40 Buckmaster Riflescope
Nikon 4-16x42 Monarch Riflescope

Looked at Millet, just not familiar with them and have not held one?
Probably out of budget but was considering the Leupold 6-18x40 Mark AR Riflescope and changing the dial out but am not sure how this compoairs with the VariX III or II?

Thanks!

Id go used and watch classified here and SWFA-sample list. You could get a nice Vari 3, or ziess probably.I would consider the Bushnel and Weaver tact. also

Use the search function-type in Millet LR 6-25x 56. About a week ago Longtimelongranger had 3 NIB for $399 I believe. Don't know the scope first hand, but seems like a good place to start.

my vote is for the Vortex 4-16 HS viper. am very impressed with mine. repeats excellent, side parallax, 30mm, nice cross hair, and the turrets are covered. a great scope for the money.

Thanks guys, have two scopes in my "sights" ;-)
Is the Illuminated Vortex usable without batters, and what about the Leupolds or Millets for that matter?

If the Leupold MK 4 fits your criteria, simply obtain the same scope in a VX3 line and send it off to Leupold Custom Shop to have them install the M1 turret; elev only or both elev and windage. The base price of the VX3 might make the price easier for you buy. Great repeatability! I've done this several times.

Yes, the reticle is still useable w/o batteries, you just won't get illumination. I have lots of Leupy's, i've only had one Millett, twice.... first one wouldn't track at all, second one was so blurry @ max magnification you couldn't hardly pick up your target.. I don't have any info on the new ones.

Whoever said watch the classifieds was dead on, you can pick up a used anything for a good deal. You can get a VX-III or MK4 for substantial savings.

Xlnt, thanks!
Been checking the classifieds and have one scoped out on the SWFA Sample list.

Cheers

Vortex Viper PA 6.5 - 20 x 50 ......... best scope I ever owned. Dails out to 1000 with a 20 MOA base and returns to 0 every time.

I'm in the same boat as you propdoc.
I like the leupolds that I have, and I live about an hour from them. I'll probably end up calling them and ordering vx3 4.5-14x40m w/target turrets, and I'm not sure wich reticle yet. The cool thing about them is that they can build just about whatever you want, and there turrets are solid. One bad thing is I don't think they have a MOA reticle yet.
I own 1 Vortex viper pa 6.5-20x40ish. The scope is about 1 year old and I don't feel that it tracks very good. Other than that I love it for the price. I'm going to send it in soon, and I'll wait to see what they say before I can buy another one. Hopefully they don't tell me theres nothing wrong with it, because Ive put it on 3 different accurate rifles, and I'd really like to go moa/moa with the viper pst instead of moa/mil with the leupold.

Many thanks for all the input!

Just curious about the Nikon 4.5-14x40 Buckmaster Rifle Scope
Reticle: BDC
Finish: Matte
Tube Diameter: 1"
Side Focus

Dont see what the adjustable MOA is and am not too familiar with the Buckmaster glass? 14x should suffice for some respectable yardages I am thinking??

Found what looks lie a good deal on a used one. Doesnt have the target turrets, might be able to get by with the standard dials?

Thanks again!
