So, I've never of heard of IOR Valdada Scopes. I recently stumbled upon one when looking for FFP scopes. I posted the listing on facebook asking if anyone knows anything about them; one of my buddies said, "they misspelled reticle, pass.." i looked up both meanings and indeed they are wrong! Do you think they know they are misspelling and misusing the word "reticule"?

1.) Are they crappy scopes? seriously...
2.) how does it compare to a Leupold Mark 4 m5. ffp?
(i currently own that, but would like the fat/oval, rounded elevation turret that IOR offers..)
3.)what is up with this scope/company? I've looked them up, but..they seem..well, i dont know, i need opinions..

thanks guys ;)

Both spellings are correct. You should pass on your buddie.

Try actually doing some research. Start with the FAQ on the Valdada web site.

+1! Reticule is a variant spelling of reticle.

The word reticle comes from the Latin "reticulum" meaning "net", having said that, reticule is closer to where the word is derived.

they both are not correct..and "i did research it" not extensively, just common dictionary.

Reticule is a noun, meaning..small net, or mesh bag..example..a womans draw string bag used as a carryall.

Reticle is also a noun. used to describe a scale on transparent material (as in an optical instrument) used for measuring or aiming.

So... anyway, the following questions?

1.) is the glass quality good?
2.) how does it compare to a leupold mark 4m5 ert
3.) ive never heard of these guy, give me ur opinion, what do u think of them?

thanks.

also note: that any web site selling anything will do its best to give the best representation of itself.. so im not to focust on getting all my info based off the site. thats why im posting on here for individual comments. most optic companies never mention light transmission and quality. You kinda just need to look through on or get reviews from other ppl.

I get also that the word "reticule" come from Reticle as u explained... but if clearly, reticle is in fact, with the first definition a measuring tool for optics or aiming purposes, why on this green earth would a company choose "reticule" when it has a secondary definition with the meaning manly used to discribe a womans purse? If this was the sharks tank..."I'm out"

Different spelling, same definition. Reticule is what is used in most of the world. Most words have more than one meaning or definition, first grade spelling.

Reticule - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Read definition number 1.

Go to the Valdada(the importer) web site and read about the history and the company, IOR. If you have learned enough to be interested, then go look through the scope. Otherwise its just another high priced top tier piece of work.

personally i'd go with the leupold or get into a nightforce. but to address the questions

1. the glass is ok, on par with leupold

2. what two scopes are you looking at? they make a ton of scopes, all with different tubes, mad ranges

3. Scott at liberty optics is the ior guy, as the the company itself, not so sure on them, Google and see what other people have experienced and go from there. I've had such mixed reviews on them, and some people i deal with have had issues, so i steer clear

what are you/yourfriend doing with said scope? what type of shooting, short and long range, etc?

I'll throw in my $.02

I have an IOR 3-18x42 mil/mil modified mp8 reticle scope. I have been thru several scopes, from Simmons and millet to leupolds, swfa and NF. Saturday I compared my IOR to a NF NXS 3.5-15 and a Bushnell HDMR... The IOR is on par to both, and I had one guy with a S&B PmII tell me it was close to his. I could easily read mirage boil at 15x on 600yd targets.

A lot of this is because of the glass that is sourced from schott/zeiss.

I.O.R. - Valdada 4x32mm Riflescope

When I picked up my IOR, it was second hand and I did not get the rings usually included. One call to IOR's office here in the states and I had a set of TPS rings at dealer cost. I also know a few people that had issues with first gens of the model I have and IOR has always replaced them with a newer model with no questions.

I can also tell you that several guys I know always say Liberty Optics will take care of you!

As a side note, the spelling is probably because the paren company is located in Romania.

But.... Don't take my word as the bottom line. Do some google searches, check snipers hide and you'll see some more info. I'll also tell you that at full power, and because the turret box is so far back, the eye box is more finicky than others.... But I'll take the trade off. I use it strictly for long range competition, so the reticle along with a 10 mil turret and great glass make it my choice. Hunters probably need something different, and past 1000yds, I would want more power.

Well, thank you for answering my questions. I personally didn't notice the spelling of "reticule" a few buddies did and they passed on the idea of us all purchasing one. I, however am still interested because i can punch out to a grand and stay on 1 rotation, from what it seems i cant really tell by the pic.... I like the 6-24x35mm ffp mil/mil mp8 dot. Right now I use a mark4 ert. The turrets bother me because after 1200m (12.7 mils, which is over 2 rotations) i seem to get lost on my way back down and at times have to start over from zero. I have used Schmidt and Benders and Primer Rectical optics but dont feel the need to spend 4 grand for a scope. so, i stuck with reputation and popularity in the Mark 4 m5 ert. Some of my buddies went even cheaper and got Vortex pst's ffp and i see no real big difference in glass clarity. infact, i find it easier to use there scope then mine. plus vortex policy is next to no one. if it breaks, send it back, get it fixed, period. So..the two right now I seem to be focused on is the razor HD and the IOR Valdada. they both are close in price, but i like the turrets and mp8 dot on the IOR.

Oh, and i plan on taking very long shots, So indeed if the clarity of the Mark 4 is superior as well as tracking and using the retical as a measuring device, over the razor and IOR then ill stick with it, and make due with my discomforts.

sorry so long but hope I gave u an idea. You mentioned IOR was on par with Leupold. If so, in fact, to get the feature I want, I would save money going with IOR?

Hey man, thanks a lot...appreciate it...:)

You don't mention what cartridge you are using but in order to get out to 1000 and beyond in less than one turn you will need a 20 or 30 moa mount on the IOR using a. 308 or 300 mag with 175 SMK and a 300 yd zero.

But If a Razor is within reach, I would buy it over the IOR.

The ½ dozen IORs I have where bought when the dallar was worth a lot more:D The variable SFP scopes are set to 18x wich puts the hashes in MOA=20MOA with the reticle and dail up from there. Three of the six will not track good enough to depend on the dials.
The new dials and ffp dont interest me a whole lot and the price tag even less! Have been told the glass quality has slipped from the old one but have not had a chance to see for myself but would but the glass on the ones I have above NF and Mark4 Leupolds.

I have the mark4 steel base mount 20 moa.. I am zero'd at 100 and im using a 30-06 with 208 Amax w/ 53 grains of RL-19. MV is not super fast, but most accurate. I also shoot the 178 Amax's same load of 53 grains of RL-19. MV is 2600 give or take a few fps. I use those bullets because it closely mimics the data I have for M40-A5.

u mentioned the 30moa base mount..will that give me more adjustments? Leupold said they dont have one... any recommendations?

I like being zero'd at 100, though, i suppose its not needed, could always use max point blank from under 300m by using the upper part of the reticel. and staying zero'd at 300m. then as u suggested using the turrets out to a grand under one rotation.

I'd like to look into the 30 moa mount... wounder if that would help...? thanks alot..

How many mils do you have on your reticle above and below the horizontal center?

You may not need more than 20moa base if you can dial in a zero close to the bottom of the turret and have your reticle zeroed at 300. Then you use the mils on the top of the reticle for under 300 if you need to be precise. If you want more elevation and are not bottomed out on your turret, then make the zero on your horizontal center a 400 yd zero.

Many scopes will not work with a 30moa base and have a 100 or 200 yd zero because there is not enough internal adjustment. Then you will need to use your reticle to get to the closer elevations and zero at 300, 400, or 500 for the long shots out past 1000.

With the scopes mentioned a 20moa base will work
