Neck Turning Questions

The answer is yes.

Why are you thinking of doing this? Are you using Lapua brass?

I suggest you try doing a few cases first and comparing the accuracy difference in non truned necks. Unless your rifle has a tight neck chamber it might not be worth the time and it could go the negative way in a loose neck chamber.

i just want to turn off about .0005 on each side so .001 total just to help the bullet release evenly and consistantly.

Check your rounds for run out, and if they are good, mine are within .002, then you are probably getting no benefit. If you have a chamber w/tight neck that is a different deal.

I did check the run-out and some were at .005

Check your fired brass first, then sized, then seated bullet with concentricty, to locate problem, what seater?

I measured the necks of a loaded round for runout and there was a variance of .005 while the actual bullet runout was no more than .003. I am using a redding micrometer competition seating die

That is interesting, I usually have opposite,small # in neck and worse on bullet, the seater is good one.
