I am looking to buy a bolt action pistol for deer hunting and would appreciate some advise. The only bolt action pistols that I came up with are the Weatherby Cfp, Savage Styker, Remy Xp-100 and the HS precision 2000. Are there any more out there that I didn't list? And which one would you recommend and why? Thanks for you help. Joe

They are good hunting handcannons, my choice would be HS Precision or XP first choice, styrker 3rd, and the weatherby last. had a couple of the weatherby's and just did not like them.
If you check the classified shere there is a HS in a 243 for sale and it is priced about $600 less than a new one will cost you

Thanks for the good info.. You judged the 4 as I been reviewing it. Unfortunately there's not many good shops by me that would have these guns for me to see.. So this forum is a great place to get some good feedback.. Thanks again

Theres not to many shops that do have them in stock. I just looked around found one at a good price and bought it. to see if I would like it.
Now I have no rifles and to many XPS.
If you like to customize XPs have more smiths and parts running around for them.

Does it have to be a true pistol? It's legal have a pistol stock on a legal rifle as long as the complete firearm meets the Federal 16" barrel and 26" overall length rule. It may not meet some state hunting laws or competition rules.

Since you are looking at deer hunting with a bolt rig, are you also looking at the potential for distance as well?

Okay, where do you usually hunt from? Stand, ground, etc?

The pistol hunting is fairly new for me.I hunted deer this year with a pistol and loved it.. I would prob hunt with the pistol out of a ground blind using shooting stick. I just sold a TC contender 44 mag with a 14 inch barrel. I enjoyed the gun, but I couldn't get much distance with it. I was thinking the center grip for more control, but I'm really new to this so if I'm wrong please correct me. I am one that will take advice from others on this, bc I don't want to invest in something and have to go through the process of selling it and wasting time. The other thing that is a key factor here is I don't reload so I would have to buy a caliber that I can buy the ammo from a store. Thanks, Joe

Cartridges that I would consider for you in a 14-15" barrel would be the 6.5 Creedmoor using Hornady's ammo with the 120 or 140 A-Max bullet (Match or Superperformance-Probably Match), 260 Rem (Fed, Rem., and Black Hills all make ammo for it) or the 7-08 (Hornady, Federal, Rem, Win. also makes ammo for it).
The Creedmoor would be the mildest of all three and would fit your parameters.
I have killed elk and deer with the 260 and 7-08. The Creedmoor is a newer cartridge, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it for your set-up
A good muzzle brake is also something that will cause your recoil to become basically nothing. Holland's Radial is my hands down favorite.
You will need to wear hearing protection when you hunt. You should anyway with any handgun or center-fire rifle.
