Hey guys,I was wondering what velocity You are getting in your 6.5 stw.
I have a 26 " barrel #1 Ruger that im going to have rechambered from 6.5- 06 to the stw.I will use it for long range hunting of moose and deer. The 140 gr nosler accubond or 130 ttx barnes will be used.

I have had a 257 stw before and other AI calibers,i love to play with a new caliber. My favorits rifle is the #1.
Any help would be welcome.
THANKS Frank:)

I have a 6.5 Stw built by Rifles Inc. Finding data is frustrating at times. I have tried quite a few powders now. Ones I've used are: H50BMG, RL25, WC872, Retumbo H4831, VVN165, and IMR 7828. Waiting in the wings to try also I have US 869 and H1000.
Bullets that I've tried are 140 Amax, 129 Interbonds, 130 Accubonds, 123 Matchkings, 107 Matchkings, and 120 TTSX. I've hit 3500 with 130 gr'ers and heavy dose of 7828 also WC 872. This wears Rem brass out pretty fast and puts a strain on the Nosler brass too. Oh I forgot to mention that I participated in the Berger 140 hybrid testing this winter and occasionally bullets would not survive the 100 yd trip.
Best accuracy is found so far using 140 Amax just off the lands with WC 872. I imagine the same thing could bs accomplished with H869.
I have faith that the Nosler 130 accubonds would be the best all around HUNTING choice for trajectory and killing effect just keep getting lured back by tiny groups with the Amax. A deer I shot this year with interbond was hammered from 350 yds. You look at how much RPMs are spinning through game and it shows astounding damage. My gun has 8" twist. Pm me for actual loads if you like

I started a thread on here last month with some loads I use in mine. I will be updating that later this week when I get back on the range. Had a rough February with family illnesses and accidents. Hope to get back shooting this week. I have been shooting this cartridge for many years. It is one of the absolute best long range cartridges for deer and antelope I have ever seen. I am shooting129-130 grain bullets over 3700 fps out of my 28" barrel. I have some new 123 Amax bullets I will be reporting on later this week. This cartridge is one of my all time favorites for long range capability and no need for a muzzle brake.

LTLR,

Have you shot it enough to get an idea for barrel life?

I just ran some numbers at those velocities and the drop and drift, or lack thereof is impressive.

I am shooting this week and will post some targets shot with it. I have shot this one since the early 90's and have not kept up with the round count. I am sure 700-1000 at least. I never get the barrel hot always letting it cool down. I keep it clean. It would not be a good choice for a bench rifle but for a hunter you work up a load and shoot sporatically never letting the barrel get hot it is one of the best of all my rifles for long range deer/antelope. I have rifles in about the hottest cartridges around and this baby is at the top of the list. The BC on the 129 SST is way higher than listed. I got way higher and so did Bryan Litz. It will drop animals like lightning.
