I have someone who is asking me a question that I do not know the answer to.

What needs to be met, for the action, to build a 338 Edge or 338 Lapua?

Let me elaborate. Can a factory action, like Rem 700 be used?

I tried to find some info. I looked around at others who have built this caliber and could not find one built with a Remington. They were either on a custom action or a Savage.

So can it be done off of a a stock run of the mill Rem 700 LA.

For some reason I have it in my mind that the answer is no.

They both can be made off of a standard magnum long action. The Lapua has a larger bolt face so there will need to be a little more work done on the bolt with a lapua than an edge.

For the 338 EDGE a standard Remington 700 long action is fine. (I would recomend having it
trued for any custom barrel job.

For the 338 Lapua I would recomend a Weatherby mark 5 action because the bolt is larger
and opening the boltface up is easy and a standard 378 extractor can be used as is.

The 700 can be used for the Lapua but it requires more work by the smith.
