I have a heavy barrel 7 wsm that's 26" long but I want to cut it down to 22-23" and put it into a hunting stock.

Can it be done?

Will it still be accurate?

Sure... why not?

Any velocity loss will be small, and meaningless for hunting purposes, and the rifle will be lighter.

I wouldn't worry about a few fps velocity difference one way or another.

Had you thought about re contouring the barrel a little lighter ?

Most smiths could do it and you wouldn't loose anything but weight.

How much weight could come off it? The other issue is the end heaviness? Another issue is that I have the BOSS system on it and I would like to keep that, but I think it can be reinstalled correct?

Thanks,
Ed

If you cut the barrel that short you might as well be shooting a 7-08. That caliber was made to have a longer barrel to maximize slow burning powders and heavy bullets.
