Nikon Monarch/Bushnell Elite/Viper/SII?

Hey guys, just want some feedback on a scope for a 500-600yd coyote/paper gun and also to learn the basics of LR hunting and shooting. I have Remington 700 in .243 that's pretty stock, and has been my varmint and "guest deer" gun for a few years now. I plan to send it out to someone like Kevin for an "Accuracy Package" as soon as he starts taking work again, with plans to have it re-chambered in .308 with a good barrel, and good stock/bedding etc. Now since my son is almost done with college (and tuition) I will start my collection of LR gear accordingly!

I want to start with a decent piece of glass for now. I want something that will teach me the basics of target turrets and such, and I see so many recommend the Sightron SIII or Vortex Viper PST, but they still are in the $700+ range. Would I be well served by picking up a Nikon Monarch and the available target turrets, or even something like the standard Viper or SII's, or Bushnell Elite? I have seen these for in the area of $450-500 new, and several of the Bushnell's in the classifieds for $200-350 etc (right now there is a 10x40 Elite 3500 for $210). Or is the Sightron SIII/Vortex PST class of scope the minimum entry requirement into this game with any respectable, repeatable results?

Just my experience. As far as tracking your gonna have to start with a minimal Vortex PST. Is there better, for sure but heck of a lot more cash as well. I have no experience with the Sightron or Bushnell Elite. But I do own some PSTs and Im very pleased with them. I have ordered the Nikon 8-32x50 ED SF with the target knobs. I will have it ready in a week or so and will let know if its repeatable like they claim. Good luck and hope it helps.

Take a look at the Pentax Lightseeker 30 6-24x50 mildot, it has target turrets, twice the internal adjustment of the Nikon (I am however a Nikon fan). The Lightseeker 30 is basically a Burris Blackdiamond with a different name written on it, it will serve you well for 475-550$.

Look at the internal adjustments when looking at Nikon, my 5-20x44 only has 34 MOA i didnt think i would be into long range shooting when i bought it, thus is why ill be upgrading later on
