Hey all, just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Nosler 150 ballistic tip with H4831 SC and the 7mm rem mag.(Rem cases and CCI mag primers)

I have shot just about every bullet known to man in a7 mag, and probably the best performer was the 150 BT. I was not using that powder at that time, but will be using it on a new 7 mag that I am am the process of working the bugs out of. As a matter of fact, I may even try your combination. I have the powder, and it would be a good candidate as mine has a 24 inch barrel. I think , IMHO, that you should have no problem, and should get pretty good speed as well, no matter what your barrel length. Good luck, and have fun, good choices!

Thanks for your reply 7stw, I have just purchased a Winchester Extreme in the 7mag so I am looking forward to trying out the loads.
I dont think I want to go to all the trouble of trying too many combinations as I have with other rifles I own as these days I just want something that works.
The only other projectile I think I would like to try at this stage is the Barnes 150gn TTSX for the close up stuff in the scrub. The 120gn TSX in my little 7mm08 have been great performers, so I dont think the 150TTSX will dissapoint.

I have been loading 162 bthp hornadys for a friend of mine, his rifle also has a 24" barrel I tried H4831sc, H1000, and RE22 all using 4 different primers CCI 250s and BR2s and Fed 210m 215m, this was all done with Fed brass that I sorted, I got the best results with 68grns H4831sc and CCI BR2s, the mag primers were to violent, ES would not come below 20fps, with BR2s it came in at 8fps with an avg velocity of 3067fps. This is also above book max quite a bit but my oal was 3.405, but your definently on the right track.

Backwoods83, I have ran into this before, and I ran into it again today. I just did get back from the range,( one of my favorite places). Also, I started a thread awhile back about 7 mags, and mag primers. I have noticed that sometimes, and more often then not, that I can get better consistentcy with non mag primers. I made up some loads as a trial on ANOTHER, 7 mag, that I am breaking in. This one has a 24 inch barrel, so I loaded up a few of each option that I wanted to test. The only variable was 215 federal primers, and Winchester WLR primers. I was using H4831 ssc, and RL19. the only bullet used was 140 Barnes tsx. The groups with the mag primers, were only bearly tolerable. The groups with the WLR, were less then 1/2 inch. My 700 P is the same way. It does not like ANY mag primer, but with the WLR, it shoots 1/4 min. Groups at 200 yards. I went with the 2 powders mentioned due to the shorter barrel length. I did not chrono these loads, as it was cloudy here today, and I was just doing some load trials, but aim sure the speed is decent. This gun loves these tsx's I am glad, because that is what I WANTED it to shoot. That is why I tell folks to try different primers before they keep or discard a load. Just wanted to add my 2cents!

All my reloading skills were aquired through bench rest shooting and other bench shooters, so unless I'm using 80+ grains of H1000 or colder or I'm going to be hunting when its 15 degrees I try to avoid magnum primers, I just don't think they are necessary.

I shot a mule deer at 400 yards and an antelope at less than 100 yards with 150 gr Ballistic tips from my 7mmRM in the fall of 2011.

I shot some target at 100 yards here near the city, and them more targets at 100,200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 yards near where I hunt.

Here some notes from the 100 yard range near the city:
1) 7mmRemMag Ruger #1 Leupold 1.75x6.5

b) 150 gr Ballistic tip moly 3.4" 66 gr H4350
3259 fps [kicks harder than 120 gr]
3375 fps
3333 fps
0.9" 3 shot group at 50y

Quickload estimates this at 65kpsi 3157 fps
69kpsi 3195 fps if we allow for us touching the lands
This is 10 gr above Hodgdon's published max load

3244 fps
3182 fps

0.38" 3 shot group at 50y

I don't know why they are so much faster out of the Ruger.
I shot the animals with the VZ24

For the last 4 or 5 years I've been using 74 gr of Retumbo fed 215 rem case coal is 3.480. My old Remington 700 it shoots very well the 150 gr bt is a great deer bullet.

I shot the 150 BTs using 68 grs of IMR7828, Fed 215m. Kills were great in the 500 yd range. Would group 2.5 to 3 in at 600 yds.

I use a Hornaday SST in my 7MAG with IMR 4831 and it is the most comsistant load I have found.

65 grains of re 22 seat them .020 off the lands. This load shoots in every 7 mag I have ever seen. 62-64 grains of 4831 sc should also shoot well, just need to chootem and see.

I have the bullets, the brass, the powder.

OK, I can have Brownells send me one of the barrels, but they only stock select match in some fat taper, so I can get one from the barrel man.

I have the reamer.

I can get the primers, I can buy another neck turning device.

Something tells me I will not get that small a group.

You are using Rem700 actions and Jewel triggers?
I prefer a VZ24 action and Keplinger trigger, but that can't make that much difference.

Are you using a variable to 10X scope?

Clark: scope is Leupold 4.5x14x40 AO. Target is result of bench shooting with front and rear rest. Shilen bbl is #4 contour, 24" long. Action is trued 700 by Shilen. This particular 7mag has factory trigger at 2 pounds. This is the rifle:

I should have my first 280 Remington coming this summer with a Shilen bbl on it. I'm anxious to see what it will do.
