Just picked up a new Rem. 700P in 338 LM. I'd like to have a tactical bolt handle and fluted bolt. Would I be better off to have the factory bolt altered or buy an after market bolt? If I buy a complete new bolt, would it have to be fitted by a gunsmith or are they made to factory tolerance?
Suggestions?

I'd lean towards modifying the one you have.

A PTG would be the way to go if you're going to have the action trued up and possibly reamed for a really good fit. Either way, a new bolt will need to be fit, lapped in, and the headspaced.

And if I was doing all that, I'd be putting on an after-market barrel.

Hence, I'd stick with the factory setup or modify the bolt handle on what you have.
