Hello everyone, I'm new to forums, threads, and posts, and figured i would get involved with the hunting community since i love shooting and hunting:)

my question is this...

Does anyone have data using RL-19 for a 30-06 shooting 208 amax bullets?

I'm not to concerned with MV but wish to be above 2500fps. with low pressure signs. I tried out 53 grains of Varget and blew a primer off and sending powder into my face. Obviously that is a sign...too hot. however, the velocity wasn't much higher then 23-2400fps. Same with an IMR powder, I loaded 55grns nothing bad happend but the velocity was slow. so.. With varget i backed off to max load for a 200 grain bullet that should shoot 2450fps, but thats for a 200 grain bullet, not 208gr. I read alot of forums on other sites with ppl claiming to punch over 2700fps with RL-17, 19, and 22 with NO pressure signs??? how that is possible, i dont know..but even at max loads of 47-48 grains im seeing a slight folding on the primers..anyways, HELP. gun)

53 grains of Varget?! You really need to work up to loads in your rifle and take what you read on internet forums with a grain of salt. What IMR powder did you try?

If you can't find data for the bullet you are using you can try using data for the next HEAVIER bullet and start at the bottom and work up from there. Take a long hard read through the reloading technique section of SEVERAL reloading manuals, then check out the sticky posts on the top of this forum, then review the manuals again. Then start LOW and work up in SMALL increments. A blown primer is WAY TOO HOT! Luckily it worked out this time but may not the next time. When in doubt, research more.

Well first you need some slower powder than Varget, like H4350,Ramshot Hunter, H4831SC, RL22, or RL17. You must work up with you charges, I would say .4 to .5 grs increments. I have tried H4350,Hunter,and RL22. The best for my rifle is Ramshot hunter, getting a consistent 2710 avg fps. Use good brass, maybe some Winchester or rem brass to start. With slower powders like H4831, hunter, and RL22 use a mag primer. I have a H4350 load thats slower in fps around 2590-2600 fps, thats shoots well too.

Just did some testing with my 06 and 208's with hunter and getting 1" groups at 320 yards. These amax's have some hammer behind them, they hit things hard.Up next is 1K to test them out.

I'm in the same boat fishing around for 200sbt good load.
last time were shooting some re17 52.5 53 gr got strange reading 52.5 gave me an extreme spreads 2630- 2898fps wow , 53 showed less 2630-2730 duno how
next step changed primers cci br , Also w760 53.2 gr to try rifle tikka 3006

just looking though the manual 208 gr bullets, I think the most you could hope for would be around 2550 fps with most powders including the range RL powders.

I was using IMR 4831, worked great in my 7x57. Also, if I resize my cartrage w/ FL resizing die, do i need to trim the case? I assume so for accuracy purposes I would, but for general use, not needed?

Use a mag primer? why exactly? Is pressure going to be an issue with it? Sounds like an interesting idea... lightbulb

I use a mag primer when using slower powders, seems to get better complete burn and have seem lower es/sd numbers. Also slight increase in fps.

Here's the load work up i did with Ramshot hunter powder, using R&P brass, CCI-250 primer, 208 amax @.020" off the lands. 57.5,58.0, and 58.5 grs all have same POI. I use the OCW method. So I settled on 58grs.

I just shot this load at 320 yards to see what it to offer. I messed with COL.

I fooled around with RL 19 and the 200gr Accubond in a 06. Could not find a sweet spot and moved on to different powder. At the end the velocities were around 2650 fps

WOW, nice groups.. I was referring to the 30-06 with mag primers? This is my set up..

Remington 700 30-06
Rebarreled with a 24" shilen stainless steel match grade bull barrel, blue printed etc. 1,10 twist fitted for a suppressor. aluminum & glass bedded.
stock trigger toned down to 2.75 pounds
Leupold mark 4 steel 20moa base mount and rings
Leupold mark 4 M5 TMR ert optic.

as the barrel was being worked on, I gave the case and seated 208 Amax as max COL for the seating of the cartridge in the chamber. I wanted my gun to be spicifically built for the 208 amax.. Now, im learning alittle about seating off the lands and grooves, what does that mean? by me giving the seated cartidge and bullet to the gunsmith, what did he do so that its a perfect fit? did he seat the cartridge in the receiver then start cutting the barrel based off where its best to start land and grooves?? this all is interesting and never new these topics could be so deeply rooted.. please, fill me in i want to shoot 1 inch groups as 300 as well.. thanks:D
