So I have purchased a Vortex Viper 4-16x50 HS LR for my A Bolt with Boss in 300wsm which I have owned since 2004 . Started out hand loading under 1'' groups , just the other day ended up with 4 bullets in same hole after 1st round fired with cleaned barrel with H414 63GRS Berger 190 VLD 2805 fps avg . Not sure if i should order a custom turret or use MOA'S . I do not know if the custom turrets will be as accurate as i expect them to be, MOA can be a little confusing espically in the field TY Enzo 4 shots same hole.jpg

Come va. . .

Not sure what to recommend for your turrets? With your rifle shooting as shown you'll want to be as confident with your optics/reticle/turrets as you are with the rifle.

You'll, for long range shots, want to factor in environmental conditions, range and shooting angle.

Whether your turrets are in yards or MOA you'll want to compensate for changes in shooting conditions compared to original zero set up conditions.

Run your #'s on JBM ballistics calculator. You can get MOA, or Inches for your drops in 50 or 100 yd. intervals. Order your turrets dial the appropriate MOA according to JBM, then compare real world poi data, & write your own drop chart. Make it into a couple range cards, & laminate them, & take em with you everytime you shoot till you know it by heart.
JBM will do all the hard work for you to get you real close, at least on paper, at whatever yardage. It's up to you to fine tune it from there.
Go for it. Once you get out there a ways, accurately, You'll never look back.

If you want a custom turret and know where you will be hunting shoot a drop chart with your rifle. Measure your drops from your zero at 100 yd. intervals out to at least 400 yds. so the custom turret maker can figure out what your bullet ark will be as it travels down range. Also tell him where you will be hunting so he can calibrate it at the correct altitude.

This is what I Vortex do with my PST custom turret. It is dead nuts accurate all the way to 900 yds. which is the limit with my caliber.

In the eastern areas we live elevation changes are very suttle. I think in the area I live and hunt it can go from about 300 asl to around 1200 asl so I would feal at easy with a BDC turret. How ever I will never own one. Dialing is easy you just need more time behind the gun.
