i got a 300 win mag with a 1 and 9 twist. Will it shoot the 230 berger? I'm trying to get to 1000 yards. Is this ok or is there something better? 24in barrel? Thanks

It should be fine. I'm not a fan of the 24" bbl on that magnum. I like 26 as a minimum but the 24 will certainly work. I have a 7mag with a 24" barrel and I did that on purpose to make it a carry rifle.

Is your rifle factory?

1:9x should work. I to have a 24" 300WM and like it alot. I shoot the 190VLD's out of it.

No its a custom build pac-nor barrel trued 700

My 1 in 10 gets the job done with the 230gr OTM's in my 300WM as per Berger/Litz's recommendation.

Your 1 in 9" twist will be more than adequate.

Even with a 24" barrel, you will easily be supersonic past 1000 yds.

You just need to work up a decent load and you'll be all set.

"Decent load" and "getting to 1000 yards" are subjective. Assuming you're trying to hit a 10" target (about 1 MOA), you'll need to be grouping under an inch at 100yds for starters (half inch would be better).

A chrony and some ballistics software will help cut down on guess work.

Just got a chro. graph right now having a brake put on the gun. Then it will be time to dial it in. just making sure the 230grainers are ok before I order some.
