264 Winchester Magnum

I wanted to know anybody have info on what powders to use with 140 gr berger VLD. I used IMR 7828 65 grains behind 140 grain Barnes XLC and getting 3,200 fps. I been real interested in the berger VLD. I recently purchased a box of HMS 140 gr HPBT VLD Tophy Gold Extended Range Ammo but have had a chance to chrony. I was thinking of Retumbo or H1000.

See if you can contact John burnes. His website is greybullprecision.com. He uses the vld's a lot. I am pretty sure he uses the 140 in his 264 mag and the 105 in his 243.

Well H870 was the best for the heavies in the 264wm, but its discontinued so Retumbo and US869 are your best bet with the nod to retumbo because us869 seems to be quite a bit temp sensitive. I haven't tried it but accurate 8700 may work well to as ramshot magnum may also.

During barrel break in on mine, h1000 gave a slightly tighter group at 100 yards than retumbo. But, it was close enough that I'm going to have to do some testing at 200 at least and possibly further. Both were sub 3/4 moa, and accuracy seemed to be best around 3125 fps in my 27" barrel.

I used rel 22 and worked up to 59.0 gr. and this was at 3060fps. I tried some others but this was the most accurate for me.

My load is 68.5 gr of Retumbo,WW cases, Fed 215M primers, with 140 gr Berger hunting VLD's, Works real good in all 3 of my 264's and gives me 3200 fps or better.

Ok I to have a Broughton 5c, but @ 26" hope it shines!!!!!!!!!!! So is it safe to say about 3100/50 outta tha 26's?
