In your opinion what is the toughest species of deer? Blacktail, Mulies, or Whitetail?

The Coues Whitetail deer. Found in AZ, NM and Mexico. Nicknamed the grey ghost of the desert and the poor man's sheep hunt. Very tough country and very smart deer. Very addicting to hunt.

To hunt or kill?

And if you mean hunt, Trophy size?

I have hunted blacktails in calif and Muley's and Whitey's in Idaho. Of those three true mature near book sized bucks, I find Muley's are the hardest. Blacktails are by far the hardest just to find even a decent one to put your sights on,

Mule deer. I've killed hundreds of whitetails, and though they are tough, the mulie buck gets my vote.

I've seen a big old 7 year old mulie take 3 shots to the lungs at 200 yards before he even noticed.

Derek, Having lived in both the midwest and now Montana, I think you need a bigger rifle with Bergers:D

NNNOOOOO, I wasn't the shooter. It was my friend's hunting buddy in Colorado. The buck took 3 bullets from a 25.06.

If my name was Scott, my nickname would be one-shot Scott. I totally kick *** in the field. :D

I think a high country muley. Where I'm at there are very few of them and it is very rugged. This was a area with son. I shot a big buck, but had to shoot sort of , off a alder branch and so I had to go find him. He stood up out of his bed @ 30 yrds and I HIT HIM W/325, son said you missed, knew I did not so I put one on point of shoulder next, that did it. These bucks are very massy in body from terrian, buck was 26'' around neck @ ears

I have never hunted blacktails, but between mules and whitetails in terms of killing them, I'm hard pressed to see a big difference if shot in the vitals with a decent load.
In terms of difficulty to hunt Given mature animals in their natural habitat, I'd give the edge to the whitetail. Much more difficult to stalk and will rarely, if ever stop to look back. I'm not talking about the feeder field whitetail mutations.

In the high country that I hunt I bone out. Then once home I wet a cedar shake and put my most tender back strap on and cook in BBQ for many hrs. Then I EAT THE SHAKE, because the muley is the toughest there is:D

How thick of Kevlar was this 7 yr old tough guy wearing?

Guess I've killed a couple hundred muleys/whitetail/elk and haven't had that problem as yet.

Sounds like I'd have your friend take some of Broz's advise - Shoot Bergers. At 200 yds it shouldn't take much of a rifle.

In my neck of the woods my vote goes for white tail.
Have shot mulies and white tails with .270 win and .308 win.
All one shot kills on mulies. At least two shots on every white tail.gun)
