this was my best ever coyote hunt by myself, I remember back 2 years, when i couldn't call a dog in to save my life.

I google earth this location, all blm public land, clear skies, NO WIND, and 20 degrees,
started out with closed reed call from ty's predator calls, did a short distress and waited 2 or 3 min. went to a pup fight, I use a horn howler and make a growling noise ending it with a few pup yips, then a long rabbit scream fading out to a whimper. they came a running. 6 sets called in 3 doubles and a triple, what a hunt, although this was a good hunt for myself I realize it is much more rewarding when you can share these experience with someone else.

I had my best Jackal hunt a few weeks back, we usually hunt them in the dark but sometines they get wise and you have to resort to new tactics, like daytime calling.

I was set up around 17h00 and started calling small food sounds with long intervals for about 1½ hours and nothing happens. Then just as I was about to end the calling used a Jackal call and one answered me from 500+ m away. Took the bino's and look to see if I can spot him/her when my eye caught movement about 40m to my left. Almost had a heart attack, the rifle got stuck in the bushes, buck fever took over, I almost feinted, but someone look over me and I regain composure. The Jackal run right up to the Foxpro and the strolled past. My lips was to dry to whistle!! and I called "wha", he stopped for a moment and it was all over. 22-250 with NosComp 52gr. at 90m.

My day was made.

How could you? Really.

girl2269,

There was a guy in Pa here that had trail cameras out and he got 52 (actually more) hits during the spring / summer of a couple of coyotes that he had in his cameras. They were pics of them carry fawns back to the pups.

As a deer hunter, they are devastating our herds in Pa. Thanks to the insurance companies, you see the game commission swears they did not turn them loose here years ago. They didn't the insurance companies did.

You need to shoot everyone you see if you expect to see deer and then that's only by chance or luck. If you see the coyote you might as well shoot as the deer are not close anyhow.

Don't get me wrong I like the coyotes too. They make great targets.
