Hi everyone, I just shot a great group at 200 yards the other day. With 300 grain bergers loaded to the lands. 92 grains h1000, I know this creates more pressure. I had none of the easy pressure signs like heavy bolt lift creatored primer, or power residue around primer. I guess my question is if I work up say half grain at a time is it theasable. That my es and SD will lower as my case fill is increased? Just trying to save myself more work. The group was so great I wana say Iam done with load development. But I guess I have more work to to by checking SD and es and if there high to see if I can lower them. Will SD and es lower at Max load or no really so? Thanks for the advice.

I don't know what you are seeing for ES, but remember that Chronographs can be fincky and fib to ya. Your load is in the ball park of max. Most .338 edges I have worked with will see pressure at 92.5 or 93 grains with 300's. These loads have proved to make for short brass life with the rifles I worked with using RP brass.

How about this? Take your rifle out and shoot a few 3 shot groups at 800 or 1000 yards with this new load you have. Then measure your actual verticle spread. Tape measures don't lie.

Hey thanks for the idea. That is what Iam going to do what should I expect for verticle spread if do have a good load. ?

I like to see 1/2 moa or less. But if the group is better vertical than hozontal it is an indication of wind and not load. I feel your groups should be shorter in vert. than width at distance. Shoot 3 and let her cool completely while you go look. Then shoot 3 more to form a 6 shot grp.

OK that sounds great, ill get ir done this weekend. If the wind doesn't blow a gale. Thank you for the help much appreciated. I know I shouldn't get to excited to yet but my group at 200 was the best group I've ever shot with this rifle. Well with any rifle.

I'm not going to disagree with Broz but the typical load he speaks of with 92-93grns being max is usually at 3.775"-3.8" oal with bergers on the lands you should be over 3.9" that leaves alott of empty space, that said, Kirby Allen is right with the edge design and bergers on the lands at close to a 4" oal Retumbo is a better choice for charge density and velocity without giving up virtually anything else to H1000.

This is true that case volume from bullets seated out farther can reduce pressure and leave a little room. But it kinda depends on the throat length of the reamer, doesn't it?

I have only loaded for and worked up loads for about 3 different .338 Edges, but they all were showing pressure by 93 gr one was done at 92 and this was at 4100' of altitude in 60 to 80 degrees ambient temps. I feel at any of these charges with 300 gr bullets you need to progress with caution and back way off when starting a new lot of powder.

My cartridge oal is 3.982. With this load my bullets grouped 1.75 to 2 inches higher that my previous load of 93grain sierra loaded to 3.850. That didn't group very well.

Ok the short version, you have .132" of a 338 cal bullet less in the case that's around 4.xgrns more powder space but your still upping the pressure slightly by touching the lands, this is why I mentioned retumbo probably between 97 and 100grns or come up in small increments with H1000 until you find your max. Just a suggestion, just be SAFE!

Sounds real close pressure wise to where I am at. Congrats on your group. I am shooting 93 grains of h1000 15thousands off the lands with gen 1 bergers, nosler brass, and cc1250 primers.
Let us know how it does farther out.

Haven't had a chance to shoot farther out yet. But I figured I would load up 5 more or so. Now the base of the brass doesn't slide into my shell holder very easy on 2 of the five. ? What the heck, is this a sign of to much pressures. . The brass has been shoot 4it times now primer pockets still feel good, that the heck?

I think where the base of the case is harder to slide in the Shellholder , its gona be OK as long as it still goes in and doesn't get any worse I could be wrong though. I guess nobody has ever had this happen, I must be the very first one, well if so I guess I let u guys know if it gets so they have won't slide in shell holder at all.

I shot the edge today at 500 yards . It was awesome, I had about 3/4 inch verticle separation from top to bottom and about 3 inches left to right. It was 37 degrees pressure of 31.10, 61% humidity. 8 shot group. I used the shooter program and BAM. It was awesome. Gona load up 15 more and later this week check verticle spread at 800 or 1000. IAM SO EXCITED
