I shot this buck earlier this season at 595 yards with my latest rifle build. He's not very big but he's legal and the conditions were near perfect, so I had to try him! Them horns don't even make good soup anyway! :D It was a first round hit right behind the shoulder resulting in a clean one shot kill. The rifle used is a M700 action with a Shilen 1-8 twist ratchet rifled #6 contour 22" barrel chambered in 243 win. sitting in a bedded B&C M40 medalist stock and topped with a Vortex Viper HS 4x16x44LR scope. The load is 48 grains of RL22 pushing a Hornady 100gr BTSP at 3110fps. The best part is that my Dad was spotting for me thru my bino's and got to watch the whole thing :).

Great deer. How do you like the scope? I will be ordering on soon.

Thanks! This is the small one. The bigger buck is in my other thread titled 593 yard whitetail.
I absolutely love this scope! I've also got a regular Viper on another rifle and it's a great scope but this Viper HS is excellent! The glass is very clear with great resolution all the way to the edges. I've compared the glass side by side with several Mark 4's and this scope is every bit as clear and sharp as all of them and possibly better than a few. Eye relief is not as long as a Leupold but it's plenty long for even the hard kicking magnum rounds. The turrets are very well made with nice sharp clicks and are repeatable every time. I love the 1/2moa clicks on the elevation turret and cant see why anybody would have any issues with this arrangement. I actually wish all my scopes were set up like this! The side focus is smooth and works well and the power ring is nice and smooth and easy to grip. Some folks are complaining about the crosshairs being too fine for low light shooting and I guess that could be possible if your eyes are somewhat weak. For me tho they're great. If it gets too dark for me to see them it's way too dark to be shooting much of anything. Overall fit and finish is excellent and it seems to be the best scope on the market in its price range IMO. I hope this helps you. Happy New Year and may God bless us one and all.
