Got a new rem sps 7mm for christmas. has the "remington" branded scope on it. anybody know who makes the scope? anyway, it shoots minute of deer right now. shot 1 moa almost just like it came out of box. Def gonna have to replace trigger, or have it adjusted by competant smith. scope gonna have to go too. But it will kill a deer which is all i need for now.

I can't tell you for sure but generally those kinds of scope deals are done by Simmons or Tasco. Definitely not top of the line glass.

Float it, bed it, and get someone to do a trigger job on it while you are saving up for some quality glass and you should be good to go.

I think those particular scopes are made by bushnel but definatly low end in the 30-50 bucks range. Do as wildrose mentioned, and you will be very happy

I had one of those I bought from ebay... All I can say is that someone from Remington should be slapped right in the face for allowing the Rem name to go onto such a piece of ****

cheap? yup, free as a matter of fact. bargain basement model? yup, 600 with scope. scope pretty much junk? yup, BUT not much more than the cost of JUST a remington long action. SO, gonna shoot it awhile like it is for practice and start customizing. trigger work or replace first, then scope. then better barrel, action truing and a stock replacement. maybe even work up some loads while im at it, even if it doesnt apply between factory barrel and a custom barrel!

You'll be many dollars ahead if you follow the steps I recommended.

Float it, bed it, shoot it and have fun while saving up for better glass.

A good smith can do you a bang up trigger job with what you have already for under 100 bucks, and nice custom aftermarket triggers can be had for under 200.00.

If you don't start with the floating and bedding though you'll likely waste a hell of a lot of ammo and time.

Be sure and do a good barrel break in before you start banging away with it though. Taking the time to do that through the first fifty rounds or so will pay you huge dividends in the long run.

Yes Sir, thats the plan. do I need to bring the whole gun for the trigger work? or just the trigger group? going to try to pillar bed and float barrel myself.

Best to take it fully assembled so he can properly set the pull weight after smoothing things up.

I do my own trigger work but I've never done one of the newer remington triggers and wouldn't even know where to start without pulling an action to see how it's set up. HA!
