What Base and Rings?

Hey guys,

I'm savin up for me a Viper PST for my Browning ABolt 270WSM. But pickin the scope seems to be the easy part. I'm lookin for the one piece picatinny base and good rings. I've found some bases but there aluminum. Are most of them OK or should I get steel? As for the rings Im likin what im hearin on the burris signature series rings (the ones with the inserts). What do yall suggest??

Also would I need a 20moa base to get out to a 1000yds?

I have hundred of guns, all cheap, beat up, misfit, half completed projects.
You would not want to be like me, but I have and have used a lot of different hardware.

I like the bases I make myself best, but it take days to make one.

I have never made any rings.

For store bought, on the cheap, I like the Burris tactical rings. Be careful you buy a pair or two singles.

For store bought, on the cheap, I like EGW one piece bases the best.

I have a lot of steel rings and steel bases, but I don't see any reason we can't hang on to a thin Aluminium tube with thick Aluminium rings and bases.

When I use two piece bases, I sometimes go through an elaborate procedure to get them co planar and parallel to the bore with glass bedding between the base and receiver.

When I put a scope with the reticule adjusted to the center of the tube on a rifle with stock Weaver rings, I want that rifle to be already bore sighted. I don't want any ring lapping or cranking on the windage or elevation adjustments.

A very good inexpensive set is the burris double dovetail with the signature rings and inserts that will give you the 20 MOA.

Cost will be half or less of any other set and more than equal.

as my knowledge grew about the internal workings of a scope and how important it is to have the scope mounted stress free, the more i like the burris signiture rings. plus, as mentioned, you can cant the scope with them also.

Howdy,

I highly recommend the Burris Signature rings. If you use them, you can use either Weaver or Leupold bases without regard for the 20 moa slant. That can be accomplished with the ring inserts. That is exactly what I did with Win. mod 70 in 7WSM. You can get 20 moa with 1" rings or 30mm rings. I use both on different rifles, and they both work wonderfully well.
