Is it worth my while to install a timney trigger in my mark v ultra light .30-06 or should i have the factory trigger adjusted for a 3.5 pound pull? thanks

Buy one of these:
Weatherby MK V Hunter Trigger Spring (current US mfg. rifles)

Follow these instructions:
Weatherby Rifles Forum - How to MOD your MK V Trigger.

and then go ahead and adjust your trigger to whatever pull weight you desire. I set mine about 2 - 2 1/2 pounds.

You adjust the pull weight of the trigger via an Allen screw inside the trigger guard:



Try it first and see how low yours happens to go. You can usually get it down to 3.5 pounds without swapping springs, but if you want to go lower you'll have to do the modification described above.

I run my Mark 5 triggers at 15 ounces. They will do that with the factory spring and if you change the spring they will go down to 6 ounces. No need to buy anything for a Mark 5 to get a really sweet trigger.

And how do you get a factory spring do 15 ounces?

I have one (1) Mark V that allows me to go down very low with the factory spring. The rest stop above 3 pounds, just like Weatherby says they will. If there's a trick I'd love to know it.

Cut off 1 ~ 1 1/2 coils and reface with a grinder. But I have found replacing the spring will give you a wider range of adjstment and worth the $6.95 to me.

To get 15 ounces shorten the amount of sear engagement to 1/8th turn. Be sure to safety test. To get lower I used to clip a coil but now just make my own springs from Brownells spring stock.

Your first post implied (to me) that with an untouched factory spring you could just dial it down to the weights you mentioned.

No, reread what I said, I can get 15 ounces with a factory untouched spring. It just takes less sear. I do no cutting or polishing no nothing than allen screws. 15-16 ounces is the bottom with a factory spring.

I did reread it. Your original post doesn't include the words that I placed in bold above. One then has to be willing to play with the factory sear settings - somthing I've not needed to do if I swap to one of Richard's springs.

Anyway, thanks for the trigger info. If I ever have a spare trigger group I might try it.

I also have a Weatherby UltraLight.( in .270 Win ) This is a 6 lug USA action . The blog that was posted stated clearly that the Photo Instructions were for a 9 Lug Weatherby action. So I must also ask how low can you adjust and set the Factory Weatherby Trigger in this 6 lug action, without cutting or replacing internal springs?? Thank You all, Lenny
