i have been looking for a quality rangefinder. i dont have a lot of money to spend, so price is a def consideration. i also want to be able to range out to 1000 yards effectively. as i plan to use it for long range hunting.

The desired range will determine cost, for the most part.

Smallest beam practicable is the next consideration.

One desires to range what one desires to range not stuff all around it.

Leica 1200 would come in under your desires, but you'd miss at a reasonable cost.

Leica 1600 would most probably meet your desires under all except the very worse conditions.

After those two, you're adding zeros to the left of the decimal point quite rapidly.

It's your decision, time, money and results.

i was looking to spend no more than about $300 at the most

You mentioned 1000 yards in your OP. That distance and $300 do not give. My recomendation is for you to save another $100 or $150 and find a used Leica 1200 CRF -Y. This unit will serve you well and will hold its value pretty darn good because they work. A new $300 model will not, and will be worth $150 the day after you buy it.
