Trying to decide on a .270wsm or 7mmwsm , will be mainly used for deer and elk hunting, thanks for all opinions.

deer, antelope, go with 270wsm, if you want to add elk go with 7mmwsm with 160gr TSX or 168gr Berger.
both are fine rounds but from personal experience unless your going to shoot the 150gr out of the 270 you could run into some trouble on major bones.

I'd hands down run the 270 WSM, load 165 or if your twisted for it a 175 Matrix, they did very good on elk this year. The bull I took this year I shot a 865 with the 165 Matrix and I was well within it's range!!!!

How far off the lands do you need to be? Are they like the bergers and want to be kissing them

I have and enjoy shooting a 270 WSM. I have shot the 150 grn Berger's to great effect. I have yet to try the Matrix bullets which I will order shortly and follow the advice of others on the forum. I can tell you I have always questioned why I went with this caliber rather than the 7 WSM, there seems to be far more bullet choices and the BC's are top of the line in 7mm. I guess its a pet for a lot of reloaders much like I prefer the 25-06 and 257 Weatherby.

Somewhere around .020 of the lands is where I've been running them and others seem to be in that area. The are very mellow to reload, I haven't had a rifle not like them!!

I love the 270 caliber but..........the 7mm has so much more options in bullets, I would have to go that way especially in a long range gun.............good luck

Thanks i will be ordering a box today and see how it works out

The 7mm is far superior to the 270 in bullet availability when it comes to different weights and manufactures. It has better bc on average and would be my choice hands down. There isn't even an argument there! If you already owned a 270WSM it wouldn't make since to go out and get a 7mm ,but buying a new rifle in 270 instead of 7mm doesn't make much sense either. Now 6.5 vs 7mm, thats a good debate!

I like both of them, had 2 7WSM's and 1 7SAUM-sold them all.

Had 3 270WSM's and still have 2.

I'll vote for the 270WSM because I like 270's.
