whats my best option?
my 13 year old daughter was an avid hunter from the age of 5, at 9 she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, she's been to intimidated by her disease to hunt, because she fears being away from the house in case of a low. She now has excellant control of her blood sugar and has completed her hunters saftey course at school and she wants to hunt. so I asked what rifle she wanted, so she wants a long range deer rifle, we have settled on a 260 AI, she wants a thumbhole varminter stock in purple/blk, so I have a model 600 243 in a brown precision stock, but I'm thinking the 260 AI would fare better in a long action 700? any thoughts? should I sell the 600 and get a LA 700 for the build? or will the 600 suffice? I would recomend that if you buy a 700 Rem get a short action or even a Mod 7.

The 260 is perfict for it and with her being young the short rifle will be easier for
her to Handel.

Use the 120 gr bullets and recoil will be minimum and there effectiveness on deer will
astound you.

If you can find a youth model 7 it will fit even better.

she wants a lilja 7 contour, 8 twist, finished at 27" with a QD holland brake, so the rifles gonna end up at around 10 pounds 12 with a scope, so don't think the difference in action length will matter much. maybe I worded it wrong but she wants a long range rig to deer hunt at the far as the cartridge is capable. so was figureing the 140's would be the best route and the extra length of the mag box would enhanse them.

Keep the 243 as a stalker. Possibly lighten it up and add a brake.

Get a 700 for the LRH rifle. Sounds like she knows what she wants.

I agree Ridge Runner, keep the 243 for deer hunting when you will be walking more, and do the build for the longer shots where you are posted more then hiking around. Nothing wrong with a 243 (except that it's no 6mm Remington) for deer. A lighter 85 gr. Partition, 90 gr. Accubond, or even a 100 gr. Partition would not swat back at her very much when shooting it.
