Gunsmith recommendation for 338 Lapua improved rebarrel

This is an easy answer, Kirby Allen www.apsrifles.com.

Kirby is like one stop shopping. He can not only take care of your rebarreling/dies needs but for an additional fee he will form your brass as well. It doesn't get much better than that if you ask me.

One thing Kirby will recommend for these hi-perf chamberings is a barrel with land width that comprises in the 19-22% bearing surface range or thereabouts. There is concern of the too wide of lands causing jacket/core separation. He's experimentally tested this with certain bullets that had the issue in he-perf chamberings and the fix was narrower lands. Have recently had this discussion with him.

His list of barrel makers he prefers to work with is shortening as well.

B23,
How do you go about contacting Kirby? I have tried both of his email addresses and left a message on his machine but never has he responded. Is he just too busy or am I not looking in the right place? I have a receiver and barrel in hand that I want chambered in 300 AX, a small 3 port painkiller, and a set of dies.

Just give him some time to reply to your email. it takes a liittle time but well worth the wait. IMO
