Savage F/TR no F class

Im still debating on which precision rifle and for a 308 Im actually thinking of the long and heavy Savage f/tr for a "sniper" rifle (ya i said sniper lol) or even a medium/long range hunting rifle.
I wouldnt be hauling it up and down mountains and through canyons but Im sure I could handle it on an simple deer hunt or two if I wanted.
I dont shoot competitions and dont plan on it, but I think for $1000 this looks like an excellent long range 308
Originally I was going to consider their 10/110FCP hs precision in 308, 300 or 338.
Im pretty set on getting a savage just cant decide which model.

I do want something with a heavy to extra heavy bull barrel
thoughts?

You can get a Rem 700 VLS model in 308 for about 850-875...

Go to walmart and get a Savage model 10fxp3 for 397, stockys for a bell and carlson a2 225, northland shooters supply for a 26" 11 twist ss bull barrel 280, then get your local gunsmith to order the target accutrigger spring set for 30, with all that and some taxes and shipping you will be just over 1000. If you want a factory shooter that would be easier to tote around even though its still about 11#s the Savage model 12 vlp dbm in 308 is an excellent choice for about 875.

Ive looked into building a savage and I dont understand why you would buy a rifle just to throw it all out except for the action...why not just by a savage action?
Also by the time I do that, I could have just bought something like the 10 fcp hs precision, doesnt really make any sense to me...maybe Im wrong?
Well Im either getting the 12FTR or the 10FCP unless I decide on a larger caliber then Im going to the remy 700p or the 110 FCP

Well by the time you sell the scope, sling, and stock from the model 10 action for 80 and the factory barrel for 70. Tell me you can buy a brand new centerfeed accutrigger action for 250, not to mention it will be a custom that will shoot with or better than rifles costing 3-5 times as much, I know I have several.

with F/TR you looking at 13 lbs plus scope, ammo and bipod, so at least 20 - 25 lb rifle, I think you get the picture not your typical hunting rifle in the hills... Plus its single shot with target action which you don't need, specially with target trigger. If you really need 308, you can get 10 Precision Carbine with 20" barrel this rifle weights 7lbs and is perfect for hunting-sniping up to 700 yards, but if you need to punch paper at 1000 yards or more F/TR would be your best choice, 308 will lose its energy pass 700 yards and you want at least 1000 ft*lbs if you planning to hunt and not putting targets out of commission.
