remington .300 win mag

I have been looking around and found this rifle that my local gun shop has. REMINGTON 700 STAINLESS SPECIAL 5-R MILSPEC BARREL .300 WIN. MAG. CAL. Would this be a good starter or is there something I should be looking at instead. I plan on going in to look at it after work. I'm still considering my savage 300 WSM but saw this rifle. Any insight would be appreciated

I'm a huge Savage fan, but if the price is right. Can't go wrong with the 5R barrel.

I looked at one of these too. If memory serves me right the barrel has a 1 in 11.25 twist. May have an issue stabilizing the heavy bullets. I'm sure some one here will know better but that was the only issue ( if it is one to you ) that I saw with the rifle.

O.k. today I went to my local gun shop to look at the Remington heres the Info...RIFLE WITH THE 5-R MILSPEC 26" STAINLESS HEAVEY BARREL ( SAME BARREL USED IN THE M-24 SNIPER RIFLES) 1X10 TWIST,THE NEW X-MARK PRO TRIGGER, HS PERCISION KEVLAR FIBER-REINFORCED STOCK WITH PALM SWELL, ALUMINUM BEDDING BLOCK,HINGED FLOOR PLATE AND SLING STUDS. Priced at about $1100 with tax. I like the looks and feel. I have not handled the Savage 12 VLP in 300WSM which priced out at $875 (Not in stock) so how much is a person going to have to put into the remmy vs the savage for a decent shooting rifle. I know they are different calibers. what are some thoughts??

Hard to say. There can be bad ones in any flavor. Both from what I've seen and heard have goof reputations for accuracy. But I would say that mil spec rifle sounds like a great start.

Well today I am the new owner of another rifle. I ended up buying the remington 700 in 300 Win Mag. I am looking forward to this rifle and hope i enjoy it. This is my first high power bolt action, now on to do some scope shopping. I'll attemp a pic

Make sure you do a good barrel break in. IF you don't get a break put on it, make sure you get a scope with good eye relief.

I am going no break for now, having a hard time picking out scope right now i'm a little bit on a budget of about $800 so gets kinda hard cause i like FFP with mildots and turrets that match

My 5R 11.25 twist loves 190 gr. Bergers. Haven't tried anything heavier though. Take a look at Sightron II or Sightron III scopes. Should be in your budget and they track consistently.
