The velocity listed of 3789 with a 100 grain is no better and in some cases slower than a standard 257 Weatherby . Is the gun being way underloaded here ? I would expect 3900 to 4100 fps same as a 257 STW or why bother ? I am interested in the caliber but it has to be better than this which I can get from the standard 257 Weatherby.

You are sounding silly. I shoot Scramjet at these velocities and NO Roy will run at these speeds safely. If you get a Weatherby quarter bore to these speeds, you're gonna need a mallet to get the bolt open. Stop reading realoadersnrst.com.

Then there are lots of silly people making false reports on the forums ,. Weatherby, reloader , hunting etc etc Many claim 3700 with the standard in a 26 inch barrel and more than a few over 3800. Afew claim so close to 3900 they call it 3900 but that sounds to much unles they have a 30 inch barrel .I have been reading these now for months trying to decide the fastest 25, I dont care about barrel life or powder cost . But I wont go through the hassel for little gain . I started out wanting a 25 STW as many report 4000-4100 with the 100 grain . Then I saw the 25 -300 WYB and it sounds good but the bragged about velocity here , I think should be more impressive . Has anyone reached 4000 fps with a 100 grain in this caliber safely ?

Oh I don't think their claims are false, I just think they are running 80,000 psi loads....that's all.:)

I built one of these with a 28" barrel and was getting 3850 fps easily with a 115 gr berger. Not a hot load as to try to get max barrel life. No pressure signs at all. I also have owned a few 257 Wby's and in no way could I get a 115 close to 3700 safely.

So the reason I built the 25-300 wby was for a carry rifle that was point blank to 400 yrds. It did this and the new owner is still using it for a WT deer rifle. It does what it was intended to do. However I would not recommend this chambering for a long range rig. As expected, the barrel life will be short, but used only for a few deer kills a year and occational sight in it will last many years.

Thanks , maybe that is the Key, it was not loaded for max velocity. I was reading another report last night using the GS bullets which I love . 257 WYB 100 grain 26 inch barrel 3770 fps . Now this was most likely a maximum load of course although they had no pressure signs they reported as in problems with the round sticking primer crater etc etc . For me the barrel life is a non issue . If I take 10 shots to zero and shoot a group or two . I will then shoot the gun max five or so times a year hunting or less . If the barrel only lasts for 500 rounds it would take me about ONE HUNDRED YEARS TO WEAR IT OUT !!! Nor do I care if the brass lasts for just one round , I am not going to target shoot boxes of ammo with it and the performance for me is the pay of for the hunt Is anyone making the dies for this caliber and do any of the custom companies or loaders offer it loaded ? I am certain if Roy Weatherby had the powders in his day we do now he would not have cut the 257 down and would have left it thr same length as the 300. Look at the 30-378 we now have as an example .

After more research I think the 25-300 WBY can reach 4000 fps with the GS 100 grain rounds, or real close safely . Saw a few getting 4020 with no sign of pressure . I have decided to chamber my gun in this caliber . Does anyone here have a reamer I can rent ? I cant find one anywhere and a new one takes over 6 weeks . Thanks . [email protected]
