Which stock to buy? probably a sporter and not spending a lot of money anyway

I'm going to put a new stock on my rem 700 sps in 25-06, and I can't figure out what I want to put on it. I dont really want to spend $500+ for a mcmillan, and I really dont think I want to go with an A-2 or anything styled stock, probably a sporter style.

I'm scared of the cheaper stocks like the bell and carlson, and the hs precision b/c many people talk bad about em. I just havent seen very many good reviews on here about anything other than mcmillan stocks. I know I can get the mcmillans in other syles, just seeing what u guys would say.

Save a hundred bucks and get the money saver. I got the prairie dog with AI bottom metal for 509 bucks. Thats pretty cheap considering the AI bottom metal. Long wait though.

HS precision arent BAD or anything they just have a bed rep because there are some issue with the m-24 sniper rifle and the adjustable but pad thing breaking. I doubt your rifle will go through the rigors of combat in Iraq and Afghanistan so i wouldn't worry.

A nutmeg wood laminate from Boyds in the JRS classic would sure look nice on that rifle. They even come with several checkering styles to chose from. Get it pillar and glass bedded and you would be set. Beauty, strength, stabliity, and repeatability all wrapped up in one! Try in find that in a plastic stock!

I just love wood and those laminates are gorgeous. There also is a company whose name escapes me right now that has a laminate and walnut stocks with full aluminum bedding blocks set inside the stock. They are probably pretty spendy though. Check out Boyds!

I just (yesterday) ordered a HS Precision I picked the HS because of the built in pillar bedding. Have a friend with the B&C but the grip swell kills me because I have small hands. I have two browns but they are spendy and I think overpriced for what you get. "Why do I hve two then? One is 30 years old and the other cost me $100) Just my .02

I honestly don't know why you'd be scared of buying a B&C stock. I bought the Alaskan model for a custom Rem for hunting and love it it's light, sturdy. It will outlast me.

The only place I've ever heard B&C, or H-S get bashed is on snipers hide. To hang there you need the Manner's, Mcmillan, or AICS, whatever. I had a Cooper Pheonix with a B&C stock also, it was great, and I'd like to buy the same stock to fit a Weatherby gun I have. But the gun doesn't shoot, so I'm not wasting the money.
I have 4 H-S stocks also, they do what I bought them for. The last one a M-24, adj, shot it first time on Sunday out to 1450 yards in 100 increments with one miss.
Stocky's has B&C and H-S, run with one, just spend a little extra coin and get it bedded, you wont look back.

I kinda agree seems like on the hide they sure are quick to spend someone elses money.
