hello wanted to get my first bolt action.
range use only in 223 so i can shoot more.

question is for my first bolt gun should i start with a cheap savage axis/w Scope for $300 to start off and learn or just get what i want, the savage 10FCP-K for $800 plus $300 for a nikon scope.

ive only shot ar-15's at the range 2x so far. range has 50-100-200-400 yard targets

what you guys think?

will i end up selling the axis for the 10fcp-k or just start with the 10fcp-k from the start?

Buy once, cry once! Get what you want right out of the gate. That is a great rifle. I have the VLP. You'll never regret getting the accu-trigger. You'll eventually want to look into an aftermarket stock. I suggest Stockade Stocks.

Buy one that fits you and your needs. Go and pick up a bunch of models from different manufacturers. I have picked up guns before that I thought I would not like and the felt really good.

223 is a great choice. Inexpensive to shoot. Low recoil. Lots of fun. Don't be afraid to check out the used rack. Lots of good deals out there.

yeah only problem here in my state they have absolutly no high end 223 bolt action on hand, must be special ordered or i will have to order from mainland so theres no way to actually look at them. the do however have the savage XP 223 for $279.00 new in stock

My dad told me once when I was a kid--if your not thrilled with it the moment you get it, then you'll never be thrilled with it.

Of course there are those rare exceptions. But for the most part, he was spot-on in my experience.

i can see where that would be an issue looking at guns. i have a rem 700 classic in .223 . i really like this gun because it is a sporter weight rifle and not heavy to lug around as i use it to kill groundhogs and foxes. i can carry a bunch and it doesnt weigh me down. sometimes i wish i had a heavy barrel but most of the time not. just pick one that meets your needs. you could also troll the classifieds here and elsewhere, it may cost a bit more but im sure you can ship it over there

Get the fcp/k that you mentioned, I have the flcp/k in308 and ou of the box j have never had such an accurate rifle. 100-600 yards with ease still working on getting farther and load development but the rifle you mentioned will do it ad do it well
