[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]The couple of readings I was able to get is well out of its range capabilities, nonetheless, got the readings. Unfortunately, I do not have any other RF to compare it against beyond 550 yards. It is indeed an excellent tool to have for hunting ... had plenty of time to test my range estimation. I thought I was good but was humbly proven wrong.[/FONT]

I'm just as impressed with mine, I upgraded from the 1200 scan. My first range out of the box was 1800 yards. Not bad for a unit rated to 1600 I would say.

Here are some things that I did to extend the useful range of my LRF-1200 Scan. The increases in range were significant.

First I covered the 1200 with a chap leather cover for protection as it was going to be used with a steady rest of sort. I could have used a base ball stitch but I hadn't learned it yet. Thus I made this work.

The top of the monopod/walking stick is a wood block with a 1/4 - 20 nut imbedded. Also chap leather scrap covered.

2. LRF on steady rest (Monopod/walking stick)
Binos work great on this also.
3. Optics stuff

After the euphoria of ranging various object however small and large and far and one gets out in the wild with actual animals to range you'll find that the small beam is great for ranging between trees to reach in a bit. Pretty nice!

I sold the 1200 to a young fella that used it to bag two bulls in 2010 at a very decent distances.

The next step up for me may well be the 1600 as it is less costly than the PLRF that I really need. Though its form factor is not convenient for a steady rest. But I will figger somethin' out.

Roy I went through all that with the 1200 scan but I must say it is not needed with the 1600 just point and shoot.

I purchased the tripod adapter mount for mine and love it . Really helps out past 1000 yards.

I have had very good luck with mine. I have noticed a degradation of performance when sunny. Has anyone made a sunshade type device for theirs and did it work.

Roy, you are the slickest person I know when it comes to overcoming life's little annoying problems. I find the the biggest drawback to my 1600 is it's so light! Makes it hard to hold steady. I finally realized that if ya can't hold it steady, it will never range cause the laser beam cant find where it left from. I too would like something to mount mine to, but man, that CRF adapter that Bullfrog mentions is expensive for what it is. They are really proud of it! However, it has started a crude idea brewing so I may be able to overcome my problem on my own, maybe. Nice solve on the 1200.

Yo! your missin' my point.

On a regular my 270 AM will out shoot the 1200 always, when NOT using a rest. With a good rest, as shown, things became much close at when the sun was not the brightest which even with a decent range chart was less than desirable. Especially with smaller than deer targets.

The same utensils could be applied to the 1600 and extend its effective range also.

Now that I can shoot to 2000 will the 1600 always supply the range at 2000? Nah. . .

Thus my quest for a Vectronix.....

Note the 2000 is for rock and scaring the hell out of a yote once in awhile.

bullfrog: Holey good squat!! $84.95, plus shipping for THAT!!! If I can't come up with something just as good or even better for ten bucks and a little time I'd crawl in a hole and pout. Bet I could even put a roof over it for bad weather.
