230gr berger in 300 win.

From an email I recieved back from Berger....

Load data was generated using Quick Load a 26 inch barrel a COAL (cartridge over all length) of 3.340 inches and your COAL and velocity could be a little different.
AS WITH ALL RELOADING APPROACH THE MAXIMUM LOADS WITH CAUTION AS ALL RIFLES AND RELOADING TECHNIQUES WILL BE DIFFERENT. If YOU CHANGE ANY OF YOUR COMPONENTS; THIS INCLUDES DIFFERENT POWDER LOT NUMBERS; YOU MUST REFIGURE YOUR LOADS BY STARTING WITH THE MINIMUM LOAD.
If we can be of any additional help feel free to contact us.
Thanks for your interest and have a great day.

Just yesterday I finally got around to shooting an initial batch of Berger 230gr OTM's in my 300 WM Sendero.

I traded for this used barrel just for the heck of it. So, I have no real baseline on accuracy or history.

Nonetheless, I'm pleased with the initial results as per the following photo...

This was just an initial ladder at 100yds with 2@ a .5 gr steps.

Win brass new, FL Sized and no other sorting or prep.
Fed GM215M primers.
Seating was .010" jam.
I had 2x bottles of RL22 ~1/4lbs remaining each that had been sitting around a long time. So, I gently mixed and used that.

The Berger supplied data in my previous post indicated 67.9 max for rl22 @ 2700 fps. At 67.5 I still had no signs of high pressure and velocity was lower than Bergers QuickLoad forecast.

I'll probably just load 10 at 64.5gr and 10 at 66.5gr to see if the groups stay tight.

I had a bunch of ERR readings on the chrony before I figured out it was the goober next to me that was disrupting my chrony and I'd forget to reset it.

If the accuracy remains consistent, I'll shoot it to 500yds. And, seek out an accuracy node with better velocity using fresh powder.

Even though these are not sold as hunting bullets, I've seen a couple of hunting reports and may give it a go on some hogs.

My son is shooting them in his 300 wn. 28" Broughton 1 in 10. Getting 2772 fps with H-1000 and a FED gm 215 M +.005" in the lands. Terminal prerformance look good with antelope taken to 738 yards. An Elk will be next.

Jeff,

I loved your antelope thread/report.

I may give H1000 a try.

I didn't want to buy powder if this barrel wasn't going to get along with the bullets.

thanks
