I just got a phone call saying my Savage 110 FCP 338 Lapua will be here on Friday. Savage Arms Firearms > 110 FCP HS Precision

I have a Nightforce 5.5x22 x50 scope to put on it.
5.5-22x50 & 5.5-22x56

I just need some help on figuring out which Nightforce rings to put on it. I called Nightforce and they recommended the medium height rings, but also said low rings might work. I'm hoping someone has a similar build that can let me know what they are using.

What rings do I need to complete this build? I plan on using Nightforce rings, but I'm open to suggestions.

I have the nightforce one piece base and ring on custom 1000 yd rifle. Very expensive, but also **** nice and I can afford it and will buy another. I have the med. hight on 50mm x 30mm nightforce mounted on very heavy barrel with no clearence problems.

If your NF has a 50mm objective, low rings may not fit. Rather than take a chance, buy the medium or high rings. NF recommends not using turn in rings, i.e., like the Burris Signature. On a very tight fit, as you are turning the scope, you might damage the scope tube. The NF rings and base should be OK. If you are shooting 600 yds or more, you may need a tapered base. There are many of these on the internet.

Are you saying that you would use your scope to turn a dovetail ring into its base? I hope not. Dovetail rings are easily mounted in place with a crescent wrench. Also, Burris Signature Rings can also be mounted on a picatinny rail.

I'm not sure how NF measure their scope rings. On my 110 FCP I have a EGW HD rail, it is actually thinner (lower) than the factory rail by a little bit. I have a 56mm bell with a 35mm tube. My rings measure .25" from the top of the rail to the bottom of the scope tube. If you are running a 30mm tube your rings would need to measure 2.5mm more, a total of .35" or so. I have just enough clearance to fit a flak jacket (6mil) scope coat in between the barrel and bell. That's with the 56mm bell. I would think you could get away with a low rings but you would need to see how NF measures their rings.

I shoot a Savage FCP-K with a 50mm objective and originally used NF low rings (since changed out), so I would think you would be fine with low. Two suggestions:

1) Order both NF sets, see what works and send the other back.
2) Call EGW, tell them your setup (rifle, scope, etc.) and they will set you up with rings and base for your rig. I use their 20 MOA base and its has been perfect. A lot less money and great quality.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info.

Measured from base of ring to bottom of scope tube the NF rings are,
Low 0.295"
Med 0.41"
High 0.535"
Intermediate High 0.7"
Extra High 0.81"

I have a Ken Farrel 20MOA base (set up for #8-40) on its way along with a NF NXS 5.5-22x56 and was not sure if the bell would clear the barrel with the low rings or not so I ordered a set of the Med rings.

When you get some trigger time on this rig, I would love to see some range reports with the 300 grain bullets from the Savage-hs-NF combination. I am weighing this combo against another single shot edge and am just curious. Thanks

Will do, ordered a few boxes of Factory Lapua 300gr Scenar Ammunition last week to get me started. Still need Dies and a few other bits before I can start loading for 338LM. Something to consider, you can find factory ammo for 338LM but not 338 Edge.

After getting the Savage 338 HCP FS in my hand the low Nightforce rings will easily fit. I had to send the gun back to Savage due to a chambering problem, but I checked while I had it, and the low rings will still have plenty of room.

What size objective? What base, incline or straight?
